Hello Friendsss 👋💗

I’m displaying my works in person for the first time at the Ginama Exhibit in the University of the Philippines Cebu Fab Lab with fellow Product Design alumni!!!

This account has been my little space to overcome my art “stage fright” by sharing my work (months, sometimes year apart haha) — and now that these pieces get to exist beyond the screen, I want to share them with you too!

I thought of giving prints away before they end up forgotten in a drawer somewhere. Soooo earlier today, I wrapped them in whatever I could find and had some good friends place 8 art prints randomly around the UP Cebu campus.

Sooo if you need a surprise Valentine’s pick-me-up, there are prints for you around campus!!! A little love letter for anyone who finds them — a small nod to finding and being found 💗

Sana mahanap mo ang hinahanap mo ngayong balentayms, kung unsa man na charrrr hahaha

If you find one, tag meeeeeeeee!!! Or send pics in the comments 😊

Thank youuuuu!!!

Love,
Kat

Our dear Information Security Officer-slash-seatmate-slash-cheerleader visited us at the office last Friday, so I’m finally posting this drawing of her from 2 years ago — my little parting gift before she left us to pursue something she really, really loves (even if she also really, really loved us…though she’d never admit it 😂)

Sooooo good to see yahhhh, Kar!!! We miss you!!!

Earlier this year in summer, I joined the Uniqlo Philippines art contest with the theme “Filipino Summer, Redefined.” I knew I wanted something nostalgic, like a childhood summer scene, but I wasn’t quite sure how to capture it. So I asked Mark to help me with a concept, and he came up with one I really loved: blow things magically out of proportion and make the ordinary feel as big, colorful, and magical as it did when we were kids. ✨ Like being the bida of your very own Wansapanataym episode 🧚‍♀️

Aaannnd here they are! I loooved summers as a kid (and still do, tbh 😅) so making these really took me back to those days when even the simplest things, like stringing santan bracelets, eating pinipig by the beach, flying a tabanog, or sharing halo-halo on a hot afternoon, felt so precious. Hayyy to be a kid and find joy in everything 💛

These didn’t make the cut, (I’m assuming, bc I never heard back from Uniqlo haha) but I had soooo much fun bringing these to life, so sharing these with you!!! 🫶🏽

Did more drawings in a span of 2 days than I did in the past 2 years! 😅

Please help me and my UP Serenata friends get the people’s choice award for by reacting ❤️ to the original video and following the official their page 🙂

Thank you so much everyone!!!

Hey there friends 👋🏽

It’s been over two years since I last posted anything here. You see, I’ve been very busy being shy. 😂

I haven’t been ‘putting my work out there’ because I haven’t really been drawing things that looked like the stuff I put in here. I haven’t really been drawing, period.

But I have been, although on and off, writing things on my journal. And as my attempt to ‘put my work out there’ again, I’m sharing with you some of its pages. These don’t look like the stuff I put in here but I guess that’s the true spirit of kayamukat. 😅

It’s so interesting to leaf through pages and see the world through the eyes of someone you once were. It’s probably my favorite thing about writing things down — you get to remember thoughts, feelings, and mundane little details of moments you otherwise would have forgotten about if you hadn’t written them down. It’s like catching up with an old friend and listen to them vividly retell a blurry story you both experienced.

I see my entries from 2020 and catch a common, recurring theme — exhausting, tiring, kapoy. I’m just glad I got through it and feel thankful I don’t feel as tired now.

Was your 2020 tiring too? If not, what’s one word to describe your experience during that strange, strange time?

I don't think I can ever capture an event like this in a drawing. There'd be more people in a real life UP graduation--more hugs, more joyful tears, proud parents wearing the brightest of smiles, that wave of triumphant energy coming from all corners of the campus grounds as the graduates move their sablays from one shoulder to the other. I don't think I can ever capture that, but I tried to, in honor of all the UP students--starting, finishing, persevering, fighting--in the middle of everything that is going on. Sa mga magsugod pa, sa mga nisablay na ug sa mga musablay pa--the tightest virtual hugs and the loudest cheers para ninyong tanan. Padayon, Iskolar!
