It is now clear that a walking nuisance is leaving marks of stupidity during Gabii sa Kabilin event. Not only did The Jesuit House Museum notify the public of the vandalism, "BLACK RAINBOW" but now Sugbu Chinese Heritage Museum has become this menace's latest victim of its foolishness.
This is a daily reminder to museum-goers to always respect the establishment as it holds valuable, both tangible and intangible, histories of our place.
The museums do not only provide entertainment but also lessons to be learned especially topics not taught in schools. It is a place that needs our utmost admiration for without its existence, there is no way we can learn of our future without learning and understanding our past.
Man is granted the freedom of choice. They have the freedom to choose what they want to do, where they want to go and what they want to have. However, that freedom is limited when it causes damage and harm to another's property. This is where the term respect is called - an understanding that we do not exist in the world solely on our own but as part of the community.
This is a reminder that when one visits a museum and decides to go beyond the line of respect and damages its property, whether by vandalism or another, the damage is done not only to that part of the museum or to the museum itself but to all that made an effort to preserve heritage and culture.
Last May 10th a visitor decided to write these words in our museum along with other museums. Making memories on GSK night that he/she was here should have been enough with well-crafted entry stamps instead of vandalizing on the wall.
The Sugbu Chinese Heritage Museum is fortunate enough to have the mark only on the wall while others were not so fortunate. The thought however remains, that a museum is a house of heritage and preservation. It is a space of education and learning for the people from different walks of life. It is a source of understanding and a cradle of inspiration carrying years of contribution of science and art. We immensely thank all the other visitors that had behaved accordingly and respected our property.
