The Kahamugaway Festival of Cawayan officially began in 2020 under the leadership of Hon. Edgar Condor and Vice Mayor Ester Binsol. This festival embodies the values of prosperity, progress, and peace, which reflect the aspirations and identity of the people of Cawayan.

It is important to clarify that our municipality ( Cawayan) has been celebrating the Kahamugaway Festival for seven years, contrary to recent claims, the Kahamugaway Festival is not a new celebration that began only last year.

Although public celebrations were temporarily halted from 2021 to 2023 due to the pandemic, the spirit of the festival remained alive in the hearts and minds of the Cawayanon people. Every March, it continues to serve as a reminder of our true identity and cultural pride.

Furthermore, the festival has gained recognition beyond the municipality, having been brought to the Kasanggayahan Festival in Sorsogon to represent the entire province of Masbate.

This statement is issued to correct misinformation from a public servant which inaccurately described Cawayan as “ignorant” and claimed that the festival only started last year. Such claims are incorrect and do not reflect the true history and achievements of the Kahamugaway Festival.
