Things I learned the hard way as a Virtual Assistant:
Becoming a VA taught me that having skills is only one part of the job. A lot of the lessons come from actual experience working with different clients, handling unexpected situations, making mistakes, and learning how to do better the next time.
I learned that not every “quick task” is actually quick. 😂
I learned that clear instructions and expectations matter.
I learned to ask questions instead of assuming.
I learned that deadlines, deliverables, and payment terms should always be clear before starting.
I learned that communication can prevent so many problems.
And most importantly, I learned that protecting your time and your work doesn’t make you difficult, it makes you professional.
Every client, project, mistake, and challenge has taught me something valuable. Some lessons were easy, while others… definitely came with experience. 😅
If you're a new VA, don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Learn from them, improve your systems, communicate clearly, and keep growing.
Your experience will eventually become one of your biggest strengths. 🤍
