Lián Li: Golden Bond of Fortune

The theme Lián Li (連理), meaning bonded union or intertwined destiny, draws inspiration from the timeless image of two trees growing together as one. In this exhibition, that symbolism is carried by the majestic form of the two arowanas, revered across cultures as emblems of wealth, strength, and unyielding prosperity.

The arowana—often called the Dragon Fish—is more than an ornamental creature. In ancient beliefs, its golden shimmer was thought to attract abundance, ward off misfortune, and bring blessings to the household it graced. When rendered as a pair, the symbolism transforms: the two arowanas become a reflection of harmony and balance, embodying the eternal cycle of give and take, strength and grace, independence and unity. Together, they are guardians of fortune, their mirrored movements suggesting an unspoken dialogue between souls bound by destiny.

Gold, luminous and enduring, weaves through the heart of this theme. It is not only a symbol of material wealth, but also of life’s deeper treasures—the richness of connection, the brilliance of shared aspirations, and the timeless glow of unity. In this light, fortune is not fleeting luck; it is a bond sustained by respect, trust, and mutual growth.

The Golden Bond of Fortune is therefore more than an aesthetic vision—it is a philosophy. The two arowanas remind us that prosperity thrives when bonds are nurtured, when harmony is honored, and when abundance is understood as both personal and collective. They reflect the truth that the greatest form of wealth lies not only in what we possess, but in the ties that give it meaning.

This exhibition, under the theme Lián Li, invites viewers to immerse themselves in this dialogue of elegance and power. To see in the golden scales not just the shimmer of fortune, but the enduring light of relationships. To witness in the mirrored dance of two arowanas the eternal reminder that prosperity, like unity, is strongest when shared.
