The City College of Cagayan de Oro, through the Center for Culture and the Arts (CAO), held its Planning and Coordination Meeting with its performing arts groups on August 3, 2026, at the CCCDO Executive Building.

The meeting was facilitated by Dr. Montano L. Tapanan Jr., Director of the Center for Culture and the Arts. Present at the meeting were Ms. Shaena Dane A. Ucat, Choreographer of the Oro Dayaw Cultural Ensemble, and Mr. Crysvenne P. Bislig, Conductor of the Talindaw Chorale.

Discussions focused on the groupsโ€™ plans for the school year, upcoming performances, rehearsal schedules, quality assurance requirements, logistical needs, and institutional engagements.

With clear plans and shared responsibilities, the CAO performing arts groups are ready for another year of meaningful performances, artistic excellence, and opportunities to showcase the talents of the CCCDO community.

The City College of Cagayan de Oro, through the Center for Culture and the Arts, took part in the coordination meeting for the 2026 National Teachersโ€™ Day Celebration Kick-Off, which Cagayan de Oro City will host on September 5, 2026. The meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the City Planning Office, City Hall.

Dr. Montano L. Tapanan Jr., Director of the Center for Culture and the Arts, joined the preparations for the Mayorโ€™s Night on September 4. The event will welcome Department of Education officials and delegates from different regions across the country.

Also present were DepEd officials and representatives; Mr. Marky Jalapadan, Acting City Tourism Officer; Ms. Christer โ€œKimโ€ Enobio of the Marketing and Promotions Division, City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office; and Dr. Alicia E. Anghay, Education Focal Person of the Local School Board.

We thank the City Government of Cagayan de Oro and the Local School Board for giving CCCDO the opportunity to be part of this national celebration. We look forward to sharing our cityโ€™s culture, artistry, and warm hospitality with educators and guests from across the country.

The Oro Dayaw Cultural Ensemble of the City College of Cagayan de Oro was honored to perform during the 32nd General Assembly of the Western Misamis Orientalโ€“Cagayan de Oro Family Welfare Committee, Inc. and NMFFWC, held on July 30, 2026, at Pearlmont Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

With the theme, โ€œTowards a Dynamic, Resilient & Sustainable Future,โ€ the assembly brought together representatives from government agencies, private organizations, and partner institutions for the induction of newly elected officers, learning sessions, and meaningful conversations on strengthening family welfare and building resilient communities.

During the program, the Oro Dayaw Cultural Ensemble proudly shared the richness and diversity of Philippine culture through dance.

Our heartfelt thanks to the Department of Labor and Employment and the event organizers for the trust and opportunity given to our student-performers. Daghang salamat for making Oro Dayaw part of this meaningful gathering!

The Center for Culture and the Arts of the City College of Cagayan de Oro extends its sincere gratitude to the Higaonon community of Barangay Besigan, especially the Council of Elders, cultural bearers, and community members, for the trust, warm welcome, and opportunity to respectfully document and learn from their living cultural heritage.This initiative reflects a shared commitment to cultural preservation through respectful collaboration, guided by the knowledge, traditions, and consent of the Higaonon community.

The engagement was initiated and coordinated by Prof. Charlie Job Sumili, Head of the Indigenous Peoples Studies Office, whose initiative and coordination laid the foundation for this collaborative undertaking.

The cultural documentation was led by Dr. Montano L. Tapanan Jr., Director of the Center for Culture and the Arts, together with Dr. Mary Joy Teodosio, Program Chair of the Entrepreneurship Department; Prof. Charlie Cosmiano, IP Culture Coordinator; Ms. Shaena Dane A. Ucat, Choreographer of the Oro Dayaw Cultural Ensemble; Mr. Michael S. Remadavia, Associate Dance Master of the Oro Dayaw Cultural Ensemble; and Ms. Joan B. Gales, Promotions and Communications Associate.

The collaboration was further strengthened through the guidance of Bai Rose Undang, IP Focal Person of the City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWD), whose support helped foster a respectful and meaningful partnership with the Higaonon community.

To the Higaonon community and to everyone who shared their time, knowledge, and expertise, thank you for making this initiative a meaningful step toward preserving and documenting the rich cultural heritage of the Higaonon community for future generations.

Upon the invitation of the Council of Elders and the Higaonon community, the City College of Cagayan de Oro - Center for Culture and the Arts, through its Indigenous Peoples Studies Office, officially commenced the Higaonon Dance Documentation Initiative in Brgy. Besigan, Cagayan de Oro City, on July 13, 2026.

The opening gathering provided an opportunity to present the objectives and documentation process, engage in meaningful dialogue with the Council of Elders, cultural bearers, and members of the Higaonon community, and affirm a shared commitment to carrying out the initiative with respect for the community's cultural protocols, guidance, and participation.

For the Higaonon people, traditional dances are more than performancesโ€”they are living expressions of their history, identity, worldview, values, and enduring connection to their ancestral heritage. Through this community-guided initiative, these dance traditions are respectfully documented to support the continuity of Indigenous knowledge and the transmission of these living traditions to future generations while honoring the community's customs, traditions, and cultural rights.

The Center for Culture and the Arts extends its sincere appreciation to the Council of Elders and the Higaonon community for their trust, warm welcome, and partnership. The College is honored to have been invited to take part in this meaningful undertaking and looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the community through initiatives that respectfully document, promote, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Higaonon people.

On July 18, 2026, the Oro Dayaw Cultural Ensemble of the Center for Culture and the Arts โ€“ City College of Cagayan de Oro proudly participated in Kuyog Ta sa Serbesyo sa Baryo (KSB) held at Barangay Balulang Elementary School.

Through music and dance, the student performers shared the richness and diversity of Philippine culture while supporting the City's continuing community outreach initiative. The activity also provided an opportunity to promote appreciation of Filipino cultural heritage and strengthen the connection between the College and the community through the arts.

The Center for Culture and the Arts extends its sincere appreciation to the City Government of Cagayan de Oro, the KSB organizers, and the people of Barangay Balulang for the warm welcome and the opportunity to celebrate culture with the community.
