The Procession of the Oils during the Chrism Mass is a solemn moment where the three holy oils are presented and brought before the altar.

These oils are:
• Oil of the Sick (Oleum Infirmorum) – used for the Anointing of the Sick.
• Oil of Catechumens (Oleum Catechumenorum) – used for those preparing for Baptism.
• Sacred Chrism (Sanctum Chrisma) – used for Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders, and the dedication of churches and altars.

The procession symbolizes the unity of the diocese with the bishop, who consecrates and blesses the oils. From this Mass, the oils are distributed to parishes, signifying that all sacraments flow from the ministry of Christ through the Church.

It is a powerful sign of healing, strengthening, and consecration for the whole faithful community.

The Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro joyfully invites all clergy, religious, and lay faithful to the Chrism Mass and Renewal of Priestly Vows on March 31, 2026, at 5:00 PM at the St. Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral. To be Presided over by Archbishop Jose A. Cabantan, this solemn liturgy manifests the communion of priests with their bishop in Christ’s priesthood, as highlighted in Paschale Solemnitatis (no. 35).

During the Mass, the sacred oils will be blessed and consecrated for use throughout the year in the sacraments. The Oil of the Sick, blessed first, is used in the Sacrament of Anointing, bringing comfort and healing to those who suffer in body and spirit (CCC 1499; OBO no. 20). The Oil of Catechumens is given to candidates preparing for Baptism, strengthening them to renounce sin and embrace the Gospel with courage, so that they may rejoice in being reborn into the Church (CCC 1213; OBO no. 22). The high point of the rite is the consecration of the Sacred Chrism, prepared with balsam and consecrated through the bishop’s prayer and breathing over the vessel, invoking the Holy Spirit. This Chrism is used in Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders, and the dedication of churches and altars, signifying the richness of God’s grace and the seal of the Spirit (CCC 1293–1295; OBO no. 25).

At the Chrism Mass, priests also renew their vows of service, promising once again to live faithfully their ministry as shepherds of God’s people. This renewal is a powerful reminder that the priesthood is rooted in Christ’s sacrifice and shared with His Church, preparing the local Church for the Paschal Triduum.

In preparation for the sacred Season of Lent and the celebration of the Paschal Mystery, the Archdiocesan Commission on Liturgy has issued the official Liturgical Guidelines for Lent and the Sacred Paschal Triduum.

We humbly invite all clergy, religious, and liturgical ministers to read, reflect on, and faithfully observe these norms, so that our celebrations may truly express the unity, reverence, and beauty of our Catholic faith.

That in all things
God may be glorified.

Today, we rejoice in the birth of our Savior, God’s constant reminder that He is with us in every season of joy and struggle. In the simplicity of the manger, we are assured that hope is never distant, love is made flesh, and Emmanuel continues to dwell among us. ✨

We wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Let us exalt our newborn King with a harmonious outpouring of praise and thanksgiving! 🙏

Joy quietly finds us in the middle of our waiting. 🌸

On this Third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, we are invited to rejoice not with loud celebration, but with hearts anchored in hope. As Liturgical Music Ministers, we sing this joy gently. The rose we see does not signal the end of Advent. It is a soft reminder that even in waiting, joy is already among us.

Violet still leads us in preparation. Rose simply tempers it, teaching us to rejoice with restraint and reverence. Christmas has not yet come, and the fullness of joy still unfolds before us.

So in our music today, we offer a joy that is quiet yet certain, patient yet alive, trusting always that the Lord is near.
