Romans 12:12 ❤️
In a sequence of linked short commands, Paul continues to explain our lives in Christ. The three commands in this verse are vital to every Christian's emotional and spiritual well-being.
For Christians, the first order is to rejoice in faith. We always reject advice on what we should feel: that to be happy, we should change our attitudes. However, the concept here is all about announcing ourselves as having a cause for happiness. It's not an order to be pleased, but to have the correct view of our situation. With Heaven, we should accept that our hope is worth rejoicing about. And what hope? Paul refers to the expectation of our bodies' salvation and being forever united with our Father once our adoption is complete (Romans 8:23-24).
In tribulation or affliction, the next order is to be careful. If we keep the other two instructions, this becomes much simpler. It would be much easier for those who see their future worth celebrating and who constantly pray to the Father to be patient through hardship. The real pain of those encounters is not downplayed by Paul. Life can be unpleasant and enjoyable moments are not all moments. Yet Paul has pointed out that it is not worth contrasting life 's hardships on earth with the glory to come (Romans 8:18). So, with patience, we wait (Romans 8:25). The final command of the verse in Romans chapter 8 also interacts with the thoughts of Paul. In prayer, we are ordered to be persistent, or to keep praying constantly. At every time of pain, we should pray while waiting for what we hope for. Through the Holy Spirit, prayer brings a link with our Father (Romans 8:26–27). In addition to even our clumsiest efforts to connect with him, he listens, understands, and assists.
