Teatro Dagway Ensemble brings to life “Dungan kag Kusog,” a special performance for the Women’s Month Celebration that honors the strength, wisdom, and spirit of women. Inspired by the Babaylans—our precolonial women leaders and healers—this performance celebrates voices that lead, nurture, and transform communities through courage and purpose.

Lead like the Babaylans— grounded like earth, subtle like water, graceful like the wind, and fierce like fire. 🌎🌊🌬️🔥

On the final day of the workshop, the participants engaged in the principles of acting. Explored the complexities of sub-texting, characterization, and stage conflict, practicing exercises to sharpen focus, express authentic emotions, and embody characters. Every gesture, movement, and interaction on stage was emphasized as meaningful, reinforcing the idea that theater mirrors life in its depth.

As the curtains closed, it became clear that the stage is more than a platform for performance, it is a mirror of life, demanding reflection, courage, and dedication.
Miss Nica's reminder for the participants, “Theater is demanding because it asks you to live multiple lives in a single performance. Yes, it can be painful, but it is by going through this process that art most visibly mirrors life.” 🎭✨

On the second day, participants showcased their unique talents through drawing, storytelling, sound creation, and activities that are connected to the 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿— the space, movement, texture, sound, and silhouette. This encouraged them to challenge themselves. These activities nurtured both their skills and the trust they were building with one another.

Before the day ended, Ms. Nica discussed the first two 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴—concentration/internalization and emotions, which led to a heartfelt exercise that brought tears and laughter. Through collaboration, creativity, and openness, connections are formed, confidence grows, and memories are created that will last long after the workshop ends.

“Art mirrors life. Theater imitates life”—reminder that every scene carries a heartbeat, and every soul has a story worth telling.

The first night kicked off with introductions and shared expectations. Through fun, engaging activities and ice breakers, laughter filled the air and a community of artists united under a shared passion for the performing arts.

The evening wrapped up with our speaker, Miss Ana Erica "Nica" Avanceña's insightful talk on the history of Philippine drama, deepening our understanding of the theatrical roots for how drama shapes our culture and identity.

"𝑆𝑎𝑛𝑎 𝑛𝑔𝑎𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝑝𝑎𝑠𝑘𝑜..."

On a night filled with Christmas lights and shared stories, Teatro Dagway Ensemble participated in Pamaskwa sa Cadiznon 2025 as a reminder of what the season truly means. Through a live performance, the play brought to life a story that mirrors many Filipino families tested by hardships, distance, shaped by sacrifice, yet held together by love.

Set against the spirit of Christmas, the performance highlighted that joy does not always come from abundance, but from presence, compassion, and choosing one another even in the most difficult moments.

This performance stands as our a reminder that even after storms, being with the people you love is what brings life to Christmas. 🤍🎄🎭

🎭In celebration with Violence Against Women and Children Month, International Men's Day, PWD, and Senior Citizens with the general theme "Pagtib-ong: Breaking Silence Ending Violence, in collaboration with Kabataang Urduja, Association of Social Science Major Students (ASSMS), Alpha Phi Omega-Pi Phi Chapter, and Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusive Unit (GEDIU). The Teatro Dagway Ensemble's "Ang Pag-ibwal: Kontra Karahasan Para sa Tanan" took the stage in an hour play, highlighting the violence often hidden in plain sight. It told stories that faced difference forms of violence but we refused to let these stories end in tragedy. It showed that when we stand up against violence, justice prevails. Let this be a reminder that violence has no place in our society.

We are grateful for Kabataang Urduja for providing the platform to share this art. And to everyone behind this successful performance, THANK YOU. This wouldn't have been possible without you! 🎭
