The Philippine National Police (PNP) will now regulate tattoos among its personnel and applicants, the police organization said Monday.

This move will effectively mandate aspiring cops to not have any tattoos, while police officers who already have tattoos prior to the effectivity of the new policy have to declare all their body art and are no longer allowed to get new ones, especially in areas visible when wearing a uniform.

Exempted are tattoos for aesthetic purposes like eyebrows, according to PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo.

Among the tattoos that will be prohibited are those associated with extremism, illegal activities, and indecency, she added.
