Hello there! Sharing with you a forum we organized on behalf of Book Buddies PH called:

"Dreams of Reading and Writing in the Philippines"
hosted by Julius Azucena and Josiah Eufemio

It was an afternoon of sharing what it’s like to read and write as Filipinos, our struggles and our hopes. The goal was for everyone to walk away with actionable insights on how our literary communities could thrive. We were hosted by UP Diliman as part of their Arts and Culture Festival 2026.

Here are the questions we tackled across two panels:

--------

READERS PANEL featuring Zy Mateo and David Elisha Arriesgado 📚

- How did you get into reading?
- How do you choose what books to buy?
- What is your reading ratio between local and international books?
- What do you think is the state of local publishing?
- How would you compare the quality of local books vs international?
- How would you evangelize reading?
- What got you into reading and how would you infect others with this love? (Audience)
- What is it like reading with a community?

--------

WRITERS PANEL featuring Allene Allanigue, Raine Rillera, Kadi Serafica, Wincy Ong ✍️

- What got you into writing?
- What drives your writing in terms of experiences or themes?
- How do you balance being a writer and living day-to-day in the PH?
- What are your experiences publishing locally and how sustainable is it?
- What could help writers become successful in the PH?
- What is it like writing with a community?
- Any advice to aspiring and enduring writers?

--------

Special thanks to Krispy Kreme for sponsoring the donuts! 🍩

Here's a recap of our first BookBuddiesPH Silent Buddy Reads here in Laguna last January! 🥳

We had a blast getting to know each other over food and drinks and books! We also hosted a small giveaway! Props to our partner location NB Lounge that made us feel at home and comfortable. The energy and vibes were just amazing! ✨

Next time we'll be implementing a timer clock so we can structure our reading time plus breaks in between. ⏱️

Hoping to see more new (and familiar!) faces on the next sessions! 😄

Julius here! Sharing pictures from + the largest book haul we've ever had! And it's only fitting that our record-breaking splurge be on Filipino authors. 🤩

After years of missing out on book fairs and komiks conventions and other fun events, the conditions are finally right! Patty and I are now in a better spot lifewise to do more of the things we enjoy. Consider this the return of Cosmic Kubo! 🥳

We had so much fun last weekend at the Philippine Book Festival. Saturday was mostly for our friends in Book Buddies PH, where we kicked things off with a Bookscavenger Hunt. Shout-out to Efram for facilitating the entire game like a pro. He had us running around solving riddles, tracking down books, and looking for authors before the final challenge of the secret Agimat — hidden in one of our partner booths that indulged us in our shenanigans. At the end of it all, the winning team had first dibs on a hoard of free books from Milflores Publishing, Adarna House, Kawangis Publishing, and Komiket. 🏃🏽💨

Next came the special BBPH tour hosted by the PBF staff, who escorted us from the Main Stage, Booktopia, and Kid Lit sections — to the Pakyawan Plaza, Exhibition Area, and the Creators Stage on the other end, with some PBF trivia and tips on how to get free loot.

In between our BBPH activities and through the dense tide of people, we were able to buy books (only a few this day), meet up with writer friends (thank you Kadi and Allene for the book swap/gifts!), and talk to awesome authors and artists who were gracious in giving book recommendations on video (stay tuned!)

Sunday was for attending panels, meeting other amazing creators (who also gave their book recos!), and hanging out with more writer friends (special shout-outs to Yan, Sherine, and Mich). We also had a great time geeking out with the Pinoy Speculative Fiction crew (bitin guys!)

This was also when the real splurging happened — our pockets may be empty but our hearts are full! This year will be the year we read more Filipino books, and we can't wait to get to them all! If you're looking for your next Pinoy read, check out our book haul below while waiting for that video I mentioned 😉

Until next time — read on, Cosmies! 🚀

Julius here. Long time no see! Just wanted to share a new video on our YT channel. It’s the most comprehensive video character guide on Suikoden so far. It’s a side project I worked on for months during my free time.

Just in case you guys pick up the upcoming remaster/remake, you can use this to recruit all 108 characters to get the best ending.

Game on, Cosmies!
