The City Government of Butuan, through the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department (CTCAD), officially launched National Arts Month and the Positivity 6: Peace and Access visual arts exhibition at Robinsons Place Butuan. Running from February 14 to March 14, 2026, the show features Likha-Karaga artists GM Licong, Rico Alabata, Merly Joy Labas, Alvin Earl Lasala, Nikko Hendriqx Orongan, Mario Morales, Jes Ryan Parnay, and Kent Aljon Bagay. Under the theme "Harvest of Art Truth and Awakening," our members explored how true peace is built through fairness and inclusion. This collection, located at the 2nd Floor in front of Robinsons Department Store and Superkicks, challenges viewers to imagine a world where access to rights, heritage, and creative freedom is universal.

The opening ceremony was highlighted by inspiring messages from City Councilor Atty. Glenn Carampatana on behalf of City Mayor Atty. Lawrence Lemuel H. Fortun, alongside Hon. Victor Plaza, Chairperson of the SP Committee on Tourism and Culture. We also received a powerful message of support from Mr. Michael E. Bacol of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). We extend our deepest gratitude to Acting Department Head Kevin Jay R. Hinaloc, the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (CLAFI), and Robinsons Place Butuan for their unwavering commitment to Butuanon artists. Together, we continue to strengthen the spirit of creativity and community through this meaningful celebration of Filipino artistry.

Likha-Karaga artists joined the ArTchival: A Photo, Paint, and Print Workshop held last February 6-8, 2026, at Balai Kalinaw in Malagos, Baguio District, Davao City. Our members, Alwin Musa, Kent Aljon Bagay, GM Licong, and Rafaella Utrera, collaborated with Lawig-Diwa Inc. and DTI Region 11 to document the manual for new, top-of-the-line equipment. This MindaNEXT Shared Service Facility is a major milestone for Mindanaoan artist-MSMEs aiming to upgrade their market potential through modern infrastructure.

Guiding our team through the process were DTI Senior Specialist Gemma Estrada, Training Facilitator Fe Dahlia Reoma, and Joseph Nichols Magdaherin of Magdaherin-Vilog Research. For the technical sessions, Murphy John Ong, CEO of IGW Digital Printing, shared his expertise on blending traditional art strokes with advanced digital technology. With the leadership of Kublai Millan and his team, our artists are now equipped with the technical skills to merge classic artistry with high-end printing innovations.

MetaMorphe Art Workshop, held in partnership with DTI Region 11, was a huge success for the Caraganon creative community. Artist Kristine Gaid shared her expertise on 3D printing, followed by Mentor Jeff Bangot’s demo on using the CNC machine for engraving and cutting. Each group even began developing pattern designs inspired by their own local identity.

Big shoutout to our Likha-Karaga members, friends, and aspirants, Gualberto M. Licong Jr., Rhencin A. Zapico, Merly Joy D. Labas, Alwin Musa, Sheina Marie F. Declarado, Gloria Maris C. Yonson, and Rochell Briones Pili,for proudly representing the artist groups in Caraga Region.

This sacred craft, historically practiced by Manobo women, features geometric designs rich with symbolic meanings related to tribal values, dignity, and family. Across the Philippine archipelago, the soul is known by many names — Kaluluwa to the Tagalogs, Ginokud to the Bagobos, and Makatu to some Bukidnons. The Ilonggos call it Dungan when it dwells in the living and Kalag when it departs, while the Ilocanos name it Kadkadduwa in life and Kararuwa in death. These words, rooted in “duwa” or “two,” beautifully reflect the soul’s dual journey — within and beyond the body.
