As Agusan del Sur celebrates its Naliyagan Festival with vibrant colors, historic symbolism, and the enduring AgSurnon spirit, the Agusan del Sur State Universityโ€”Saliao Performing Arts Guild takes the spotlight as part of the opening of this year's celebration.

The Guild has not just shown artistry, creativity, and grace in dance, but also showcases the rich cultural heritage of the different tribes across the province of Agusan del Sur.

We are beyond proud to not just be a part of this celebration, but also to share the true spirit of the AgSurnons with the entire province. This is not only a showcase of talent, but a reminiscing of who we are and a way of honoring every milestone and success our province has achieved.

Agusan del Sur is incredibly rich in culture and natural resources, yet many of its deep-rooted traditions remain unknown to the world. The Agusan del Sur State University-Saliao Performing Arts Guild is one of the few institutional groups that continually preserves and nurtures Agusanโ€™s cultural heritage through dance, music, theater, and the visual arts. As our province hosts this yearโ€™s Palarong Pambansa, the guild is thrilled to showcase a grand cultural performance celebrating the life, spirit, and traditions of the four historic tribes across the province.

This spectacular show depicts a traditional wedding ritual, a sacred ceremony that is still practiced to this day in some areas of Agusan del Sur. Prepare to witness a dazzling, heartfelt performance that will captivate audiences not only from our home province but from across the entire Philippines.

Witness, too, the vibrant tapestry of life through the tradition of the customary arranged marriage of the tribes, where true love, family honor, and sacred vows intertwine despite the changing times. It is a deeply moving glimpse into the heart of our ancestral heritage: ๐๐”๐˜๐€

Before the competitions begin, friendships are already being formed.

Agusan del Sur State University (ADSSU) warmly welcomed the technical officials of Menโ€™s and Womenโ€™s Artistic Gymnastics and Aerobic Gymnastics during a Welcome Night held on May 22, 2026, as part of the provinceโ€™s preparations for the Agusan del Sur - Palarong Pambansa 2026.

In collaboration with DepEd Bunawan, the evening brought together delegates, organizers, and guests for a memorable gathering filled with fellowship, cultural performances, games, music, and dance. The fellowship dinner was generously sponsored by the Local Government Unit of Bunawan, Agusan del Sur under the leadership of Mayor Sylvia Barrios Elorde, together with the Sangguniang Bayan headed by Vice Mayor Ednard Gil Elorde and the municipal council members.

Guests were treated to vibrant performances by the Saliao Performing Arts Guild and local talents, offering a glimpse into the rich culture and warm hospitality of Agusan del Sur.

Joining the celebration were members of the ADSSU Top Management led by University President Dr. Joy C. Capistrano, who welcomed the delegates and shared in the excitement of the upcoming games.

The evening also reflected the collective effort behind a dream that is now becoming a reality. Through the leadership and support of the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur headed by Governor Santiago "Santi" B. Cane Jr., Vice Governor Patricia Anne "Ate Pat" B. Plaza, First District Representative Alfelito M. Bascug, and Second District Representative Adolph Edward โ€œEddiebongโ€ G. Plaza, together with partner agencies, local government units, schools, and communities, Agusan del Sur stands ready to host the nation for Palarong Pambansa 2026.

As laughter filled the venue and new friendships took shape, one thing was clear: the Palaro spirit has arrived in Agusan del Sur.

The Caraga Region secured its first championship in the ongoing Philippine Association of State Universities and Collegesโ€“National Culture and the Arts Festival (PASUC-NCAF) held yesterday, April 8, at West Visayas State University (WVSU).

The Agusan del Sur State Universityโ€“Saliao Performing Arts Guild delivered a dazzling performance that showcased not only a passion for dance but also a deep love for the preservation of the Caraga regionโ€™s culture and traditions. Through their expressive movements, they emerged as the first gold medalists of this yearโ€™s national competition for Festival Dance.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Caraga Association of State Universities and Colleges (CASUC), headed by the CASUC and ADSSU President, Dr. Joy C. Capistrano; the Caraga Regional Director for Culture and the Arts and NEMSU Director for Culture and the Arts, Dr. Shyla Moreno; together with the University Presidents across the region: CSU President, Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil; NEMSU President, Dr. Nemesio G. Loayon; SNSU President, Dr. Rowena A. Plando; and the Executive Director and Provost of the PNU Mindanao Campus, Dr. Adelyne Costelo-Abrea.

We also recognize the SUC Directors for Culture and the Arts: Prof. Q**m B. Miolata of ADSSU; Dr. Adam Roy Galolo of CSU; Professor Rolly Balbutin of PNU; and Prof. Eleanor M. Delito of SNSU, for their all-out support and dedication to this national competition.
