For years, Project Susog Inc. has continued to work quietly and passionately for the preservation of our heritage, culture, identity, and environment. From historical marker restoration projects, cultural documentation, heritage awareness campaigns, clean-up drives, educational activities, youth initiatives, up to community-led cultural programs, these efforts were made possible through volunteerism, dedication, and often personal sacrifice.

Many of these initiatives are done with little to no funding. More often than not, expenses come directly from our own pockets and personal savings just to ensure that the work continues. Materials, transportation, documentation, restoration supplies, permits, logistics, food for volunteers, and many other necessities require resources that are not always easy to sustain.

Through the PSusog Heritage Fund, we are humbly opening an opportunity for individuals, friends, organizations, and communities who believe in our mission to become part of these efforts. If you think Project Susog Inc. has been doing meaningful and impactful work, and if you wish to help sustain and expand these initiatives, we sincerely ask for your support through this crowdfunding campaign.

Our goal is to raise ₱50,000 to help sustain Project Susog Inc.’s heritage, cultural, environmental, and community initiatives for the months of June to July 2026. The fund will help cover operational and project-related expenses including transportation, restoration and clean-up materials, documentation, volunteer support, coordination, and other necessities needed to continue our grassroots advocacy work.

Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us continue protecting stories, spaces, traditions, and memories that define who we are as a people. Para sa mas urog pang mauyay na Buhi!

#𝗕𝘂𝗵𝗶𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 | 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼 𝟭𝟵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 - Isang makasaysayang hakbang para sa pangangalaga ng lokal na kasaysayan at cultural heritage ang isinagawang restoration ng pre-war historical marker ng St. Francis of Assisi Church sa bayan ng Buhi nitong Mayo 17, 2026.

Pinangunahan ang proyekto ng Project Susog, Inc. sa pamumuno ni heritage advocate Ryan Cuatrona katuwang ang Manileños for Heritage sa ilalim ng heritage consultant na si Stephen Pamorada.

Layunin ng proyekto na maibalik ang dating anyo at mapreserba ang historical marker na unang inilagay noong 1938 ng Historical Research and Markers Committee of the Philippine Islands. Sa paglipas ng panahon, kinakalawang na ang cast-iron marker at mayroon nang mga nawawalang letra sa inskripsyon nito sa kabila ng dati nang pagpipinta rito ng anti-rust paint.

Ayon kay Cuatrona, hindi lamang pisikal na restoration ang layunin ng proyekto kundi maging ang pagpapanatili ng mahalagang bahagi ng kasaysayan at pagkakakilanlan ng Buhi para sa susunod na henerasyon.

“This ongoing effort seeks not only to restore the physical condition of the marker, but also to help preserve an important piece of Buhi’s historical memory for future generations,” ani Cuatrona.

Dagdag pa niya, ang proyekto ay simbolo ng volunteerism, collaboration, at collective responsibility sa pangangalaga ng cultural heritage ng komunidad.

Kabilang din sa tumutulong sa restoration works ang team ni Stephen Pamorada, isang kilalang heritage consultant at cultural advocate na dating naging Head ng Philippine Registry of Cultural Property at dating pangulo ng Heritage Conservation Society-Youth. Sa kasalukuyan, pinamumunuan niya ang The Heritage Collective, isang consultancy group na nagsusulong ng cultural preservation sa bansa.

Nakiisa rin at tumulong ang Buhi Forum News sa pamamagitan ni Administrator Ting Villadares at ang local artist na si Jhea Nicole Comandante. Nag-cover din ang GMA News Network para sa isang feature story na inaasahang ipapalabas sa national television sa programang “I-Juander” bago matapos ang buwan ng Mayo 2026.

Ang St. Francis of Assisi Church sa Buhi ay isa sa mga pinakamatandang simbahan sa Camarines Sur at itinuturing na mahalagang bahagi ng kasaysayan, pananampalataya, at identidad ng mga Buhinon.

Minsan hindi natin napapansin ang mga bagay na araw-araw nating nadadaanan. Tahimik lang sila, nakatayo, tila ordinaryo. Pero kapag tinignan nang mabuti, dala pala nila ang kasaysayan ng isang buong bayan.

Noong 1938, isang Level II Historical Marker ang inilagay ng noon ay Philippine Historical Research and Markers Committee, na ngayo’y National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), upang kilalanin ang makasaysayang kahalagahan ng Simbahan ng Buhi at ang naging ambag nito sa paghubog ng kasaysayan at pag-unlad ng ating bayan.

Kakaiba ang marker na ito dahil kabilang ito sa labinlimang pre-war historical markers na inilagay sa buong Bikol Region mula 1938 hanggang 1940. At posibleng ito na lamang ang natitirang 1938 marker sa buong rehiyon na nananatili hanggang ngayon.

Pero sa paglipas ng panahon, hindi rin ito nakaligtas sa pagkasira. Kinain ng kalawang, napinturahan ng hindi tugma sa orihinal nitong kulay, nabura at nawalan ng ilang teksto. Unti-unti ring nawawala ang dignidad ng isang mahalagang bahagi ng ating lokal na kasaysayan.

Dahil dito, nakipag-partner ang Project Susog Inc. sa Manileños For Heritage — isang grupo ng mga volunteers na kaagapay ng NHCP sa restoration ng mga historical markers sa Metro Manila — upang maisakatuparan ang restoration ng marker na ito.

Ngayong May 17, 2026, sa suporta ng Parish of St. Francis of Assisi - Buhi headed by Rev. Fr. William M. Parde, Jr., sisimulan natin ang pagbabalik ng dating dangal ng makasaysayang marker ng Simbahan ng Buhi.

At kung magiging maayos ang lahat, inaasahan natin itong opisyal na maipapakita at ma-unveil sa publiko sa bisperas ng pista ng bayan ngayong May 24, 2026.

Hindi lang ito simpleng pagpipintura o restoration. Maliit man itong bagay para sa iba, isa itong paraan ng pag-alala, paggalang, at pagprotekta sa mga natitirang bakas ng ating kasaysayan bilang mga taga-Buhi.

Bukas po kami sa sinumang indibidwal o grupo na nais makibahagi sa mahalagang gawaing ito. Tumatanggap po kami ng anumang tulong—materyal man o pinansyal—upang masiguro na magiging maayos at matagumpay ang activity na ito. Sa mga nais magpaabot ng suporta, maaari po kayong mag-message sa amin.

So ano na pagkatapos ng clean-up sa Arko ng Dating Sementeryo ng Buhi? Paano kung posible pala itong maging ganito?

Sa totoo lang, gusto naming ituloy at palawakin pa itong people’s initiative na nasimulan natin. Baka kung sama-sama nating gugustuhin at pagtatrabahuhan, mas marami pa tayong magawa para sa mga makasaysayang lugar sa Buhi.

Siguro pwede tayong magsimula sa pailaw para mas ma-highlight ang lumang arko lalo na sa gabi. Baka may gustong mag-pledge, mag-donate, o tumulong in any way. If ever, message lang ang Project Susog Inc.
at baka kaya nating gawing realidad ito nang sama-sama.

Para sa mas urog pang mauyay na Buhi. ✨

A meaningful way to culminate the first week of National Heritage Month 2026.

The oldest surviving structure in the Municipality of Buhi now stands free from waste, overgrown weeds, and invasive growth. While much work still lies ahead to ensure the long-term preservation and maintenance of this historical landmark, this effort already marks an important beginning.

Project Susog Inc. remains open to individuals and groups willing to extend support for this initiative—whether through donations for lighting fixtures, assistance in long-term structural restoration, beautification efforts such as gardening and landscaping, or sponsorship of a local historical marker. Those interested may send us a message so we can coordinate accordingly.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers and partners who helped make this possible, especially the San Pedro Barangay Council, the staff and interns of the Office of the Municipal Vice Mayor, PGBI, Nakabuhi Forum, and everyone who offered their time and effort for this cause.

𝘉𝘶𝘩𝘪 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘺

Project Susog Inc. has begun preliminary discussions with members of birdwatching communities in Bikol, as well as partners from University of the Philippines Los Baños, to explore the possibility of holding an initial birdwatching activity this May.

Lake Buhi and its surrounding ecosystems—collectively recognized as the Buhi Wildlife Sanctuary—are widely known as the home of the world-famous Sinarapan. Beyond this, the sanctuary also serves as a vital habitat for various endemic and migratory bird species that remain underdocumented and in need of sustained study and visibility.

Through this initiative, Project Susog aims to help spark interest in birdwatching as both a cultural and environmental activity—one that fosters awareness not only of these bird species, but of the broader ecological systems that sustain them.

Further details will be announced once plans are finalized.

We invite individuals, organizations, and advocates who are interested in participating or partnering with us to help bring this initiative to life. Together, we can take meaningful steps toward documenting, understanding, and protecting Buhi’s natural heritage.

Project Susog Inc. maintains that cultural education is an essential component of holistic learning. Through it, individuals are able to better understand their roots, revisit their heritage, and engage more deeply with their cultural identity. In line with this, we continue to support student researchers in their academic and creative pursuits.

Last week, Buhinën students from Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges visited us for a video presentation they are producing for their Reading in Philippine History course. We were glad to welcome them at La Casa Doña Benita Noble in Brgy. Sagrada Familia, owned by Rodrigo Claveria, who generously allowed the use of the space for the interview. We also look forward to developing La Casa Doña Benita Noble into a cultural and heritage center for Buhi in the near future. A second interview was conducted at the Magindara Eco Park, another important landmark of Buhi.

To enrich their experience, we invited the students to a short tour around town, allowing them to encounter firsthand the sites and stories discussed during the interview—bringing history beyond the page and into lived experience.

In nurturing this connection between learning and place, we hope to inspire a new generation to not only study history, but to take part in preserving and shaping it.

Our efforts to conserve and protect Buhi’s natural heritage continue this National Heritage Month as we joined the clean-up drive organized by the Barangay Council of Brgy. San Buenaventura, under the leadership of PB Art Lavadia.

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, volunteers gathered and moved as one in cleaning Purong Kasabangan—an important yet often overlooked heritage site in the town. Usually submerged for most months of the year, the area becomes accessible during the dry season. Situated at the mouth of the Rinaga River leading to Lake Buhi, this site holds both historical and ecological significance. Within its grounds stands the old parola, a lighthouse structure built during the American Period, while its surrounding environment serves as a vital habitat for endemic and migratory bird species.

The urgency of the clean-up was made evident by the volume of waste that had accumulated in the area. For three consecutive Saturdays, the Barangay Council has tirelessly led this initiative, but the magnitude of the task called for broader community support. In response, several organizations and volunteer groups extended their help, including the Office of the Municipal Vice Mayor, PGBI, Tau Gamma Phi, Active Corpus Society, Nakabuhi Forum, Buhinon Vloggers, 4Ps volunteers, barangay health workers, and barangay tanods.

It was a productive day of collective action, but the work is far from over. The heritage site still requires continued effort and sustained volunteer participation. We encourage everyone who can spare their time to take part in this meaningful cause.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all who shared their time, strength, and commitment. May this serve as a continuing call for collective responsibility as we work together to protect, preserve, and restore the heritage that we all share.
