Last June 26, we celebrate the successful culmination of the๐ญ๐ฌ๐ด-๐ต๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ of the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education 2nd and 3rd year students of the ๐ฃ๐ผ๐น๐๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต๐ป๐ถ๐ฐ ๐๐ผ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ด๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐น๐ฎ๐ป, held at ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐บ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ธ๐ต๐ฎ ๐๐ฟ๐ ๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฒ in Danacbunga, Botolan, Zambales.
Over the course of this apprenticeship, our goal was not only to develop artistic skills but also to deepen the students' understanding of the social responsibility that comes with being artists and future educators. Together, we explored the history of art, the evolution of painting, and the role of art as an agent of social change. We discussed foundational primers, encouraging critical reflection on the relationship between art, culture, and society.
Beyond the classroom discussions, the apprentices immersed themselves in hands-on workshops in sketching, acrylic painting, and rubber-cut printmaking. These sessions emphasized the fundamentals of form, value, composition, and technique. For many of them, printmaking was a completely new experience, and witnessing their excitement and curiosity as they carved, inked, and pulled their very first prints reminded us why art education remains so meaningful.
Their contributions extended beyond learning. The apprentices became part of Sambalikha's continuing journey by helping redesign our merchandise and product station, organizing and cleaning our storage room, carefully wrapping and preserving older artworks, and preparing sold pieces from our previous exhibition. Their willingness to serve and take ownership of these responsibilities demonstrated professionalism, teamwork, and genuine care for the space that welcomed them.
As the culmination of their apprenticeship, both the 2nd and 3rd year students proudly curated and mounted their own exhibition entitled "๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ ๐๐น๐น-๐ฆ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ" More than a showcase of artworks, the exhibition reflected months of learning, collaboration, creativity, and personal growth. During the closing program, each apprentice shared heartfelt reflections and takeaways from the experience, reminding us that education is not measured only by the hours completed but by the perspectives gained, the confidence built, and the communities formed.
To the students, thank you for your dedication, openness to learning, and trust throughout these 108 hours. We hope that the lessons you carry from Sambalikha will continue to inspire your practice as artists, educators, and advocates for culture and the arts. Continue creating with purpose, teaching with compassion, and using your creativity to make meaningful change in your communities.
