Gala Cultural Show Shines at SHINE @22 Charter Anniversary of SLSU Bontoc Campus
In celebration of the SHINE @22 Charter Anniversary of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) Bontoc Campus, the university community gathered for a spectacular Gala Cultural Show anchored on the inspiring theme, โSoar High in the Global Sky.โ The event highlighted Filipino culture, talent, and artistry, showcasing performances that reflected national pride and unity while embracing global excellence.
The evening formally opened with a powerful and meaningful presentation by the Tikarol Performing Arts Conservatory. Their opening number, โPiliin Mo ang Pilipinas,โ immediately set the tone of the celebration. The performance emphasized love for country, cultural appreciation, and the importance of choosing and uplifting the Philippines in a rapidly globalizing world. Through graceful choreography, vibrant costumes, and expressive music, the performers captivated the audience and ignited a strong sense of patriotism.
Following the opening act was โUyauy,โ a lively traditional dance that showcased rich indigenous heritage and community celebration. The performance displayed colorful movements and rhythmic coordination, symbolizing unity and joyful gatherings among Filipino communities.
The audience was then treated to a dynamic Bisaya Medley, which featured popular songs and dances from the Visayas region. This segment highlighted the vibrant musical traditions of the Visayan people, blending energy, harmony, and cultural pride into one engaging performance.
Next came โGaway-Gaway,โ a cultural piece that portrayed festive movements and playful interactions rooted in Filipino tradition. The performers delivered a spirited act that celebrated communal harmony and local artistry.
The heartfelt song โSi Felimonโ followed, offering a touching narrative of the life of a simple fisherman. This emotional performance reflected themes of hardship, resilience, and the everyday struggles of ordinary Filipinos, resonating deeply with the audience.
The program continued with a lively Tagalog Medley, celebrating well-loved songs from the Luzon region. This segment highlighted the diversity of Filipino music, from traditional melodies to contemporary favorites, reinforcing the richness of the national language and culture.
Adding further color to the show was โChavacano de Zamboanga,โ which showcased the unique Spanish-influenced dialect and culture of Zamboanga. The performance celebrated cultural diversity in Mindanao, blending rhythm, language, and dance into a vibrant cultural expression.
The Gala Cultural Show concluded with a grand overall finale featuring the inspiring songs โAwit ng Lupa,โ โHimig ng Tubig,โ โBida,โ and โPilipinas.โ The finale symbolized unity, environmental awareness, Filipino excellence, and national pride. As all performers gathered on stage, their collective voices and synchronized movements embodied the theme โSoar High in the Global Sky,โ reminding everyone that while SLSU continues to reach global heights, it remains deeply rooted in Filipino identity and culture.
