Outreach Program: A Reflection

“Nagragsak ka nga ag-Emcee, Sir! Agyaman kami ti iyo-umayyo ditoy pagbaludan…” These heartfelt words from one of the prisoners, or Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL), deeply moved me. Their appreciation for my service touched my heart and reminded me of the profound impact even small acts of kindness can have.

As a Divinian, I have learned the importance of serving others, no matter how small the gesture. I understand the realities inside prison walls—homesickness, longing for loved ones, the desire for freedom, loneliness, fear, and depression. I thank God for using me as a vessel to bring joy and entertainment to our PDLs during the Christmas season. Moreover, I shared my personal story about my youngest brother, who was once imprisoned in Manila City Jail. I spoke honestly and encouraged the prisoners by sharing how my brother, despite his past as an ex-convict, transformed his life. He survived, changed, and now leads a new life with his own family. This story is a testament that hope can shine even in the darkest moments.

Through the Bucay Outreach Program of Divine Word College of Bangued, part of our apostolic service, I have once again realized the true meaning of social responsibility.
