2025 year-end reflection.

This year clarified the difference between doing work and surviving systems shaped by control and workplace politics. I let go of grief and misalignment, keeping what I know to be true: I understand my limits and strengths.

Somewhere in the chaos of moving two years ago, my splash pan got lost. Life shifted, work took most of my time, and I learned to start over in new places. Today, I unboxed a new splash pan and bats — feels like something I should find my way back to.

Starting 2025, I managed to complete a bulk order of plates and lead a hand building workshop, all while juggling the demands of my day job. I want to recognize this milestone. Drained, craving rest, yet still unsure if I have it in me to do this full time.

Kiln Rehab

My purple kiln has quite a history. It’s been with me since 2017, originally purchased from the late Sir Tony. Its first repairs were handled by Central Ceramic, and it has powered through over a hundred firings since then. Sadly, it endured a bit of water damage during the rainy season due to inadequate housing. This kiln has traveled a lot over the years, moving from one place to another, and has remained a constant part of my work.

I decided it was time to give it the care it deserves. I had it checked and serviced, and I’m deeply grateful to Sir Dean Jacob for accommodating the kiln, as well as Sir W***y and Sir Jhesmar for their hard work on it. This experience reminded me that there’s always something new to unlearn and relearn. Here’s hoping for smoother days ahead!

March, 2024. We began the first quarter of the year with a ceramic workshop for senior high school students. It was a pleasure to teach again, and I am proud of their handbuilt ceramics. 💓

Jifuen Old Street is an iconic tourist attraction that is thought to be the inspiration for Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away opening sequence.

I stumbled upon this ceramic tea house along the way. It was a pleasant break from a congested environment since I'm not really a fan of large group tours. I found some inspiration and motivation to return to the craft.

In my day job, I was able to take advantage of a company incentive trip. Taiwan was the destination of our travel. My handmade ceramic miniatures must accompany me, of course.

Sharing some photos from Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, a national monument in Taipei. Appreciating some Ming Dynasty architectural style.
