Unjust Vexation under Philippine Law

Unjust Vexation is a crime under Revised Penal Code, specifically Article 287.

📖 What is Unjust Vexation?
Unjust vexation happens when a person causes annoyance, irritation, torment, distress, or disturbance to another person, without legal justification.

It covers acts that:
Are annoying or irritating
Do not necessarily involve violence
Do not fall under other specific crimes (like threats, coercion, or slander)

In short:
👉 Any act that unjustly annoys or disturbs another person can be considered unjust vexation.

⚖️ Elements of Unjust Vexation
For someone to be liable, these must be present:

There is an act that causes annoyance or irritation.
The act is done intentionally.
The act is unjustified.
The act does not fall under another specific crime.

📌 Examples
Examples may include:
Repeatedly calling or texting someone to harass them
Publicly embarrassing someone without reason
Blocking someone’s path just to annoy them
Making unnecessary disturbances meant to irritate

⚠️ Note: The seriousness depends on circumstances and evidence.

🏛️ Penalty
The penalty is usually:

Arresto menor (1 day to 30 days imprisonment)
or Fine, depending on the court's discretion.

Difference from Other Crimes
Crime Key Difference
Grave Threats There is a threat of harm
Slander Damage to reputation
Coercion Forcing someone to do something
Unjust Vexation Simple annoyance or irritation without other elements

Unjust vexation is considered a light offense, but it can still result in:
Criminal record
Court proceedings
Possible imprisonment or fine
