‘Ano mai! Come weave with me at the Silverton Casino, immediately after the competition (day 1, on 9/13) ends. Bring a pair of scissors, a big sewing needle & a roll of Pae’ore (lauhala) with you. If you don’t have any Pae’ore I’ll have some for sale that day. Thank you to my sis & cousin for bringing culture to 702!

URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT:

With heavy 💕 we’d like to share the news: it’s the end of an era for us!

We will be offering a few workshops & I (Vairea) will be judging a 1-2 more competitions this year but as of this September, we will no longer offer our services for costume orders, language translation or tumu parau (theme/storywriting).

We truly thank you all for your love & support on this near-decade long journey. Māuruuru & fa’aitoito to all ✨

Te Ihi O Te Aranui’s Mock Fete was designed for a panel of judges to give real time feedback after watching lines of soloists.

Each soloist also had a chance to read handwritten essays about their experience creating their costumes & then performing a solo routine on their own.

Our family is bringing the Australes (Tuha’a Pae) culture to the 702 for this year’s ‘Ori Tahiti Las Vegas 2025!

Directly after the day ends on Saturday, 9/13 - both our weaving & drumming workshops are taking place ❤️‍🔥

🙌🏽 Rima’ī By Vai - come learn Rara’a (Traditional Weaving) at my workshop! Together we’ll learn how to weave hatua (a belt like item used as the base for many dance costumes). This workshop emphasizes the value of Pae’ore in Polynesian culture & the importance of guarding ancestral weaving techniques.

🥁 Rohi Pehe - my Uncle Tutu is offering an educational drumming workshop which features the history & technique of several pehe that share roots in Rurutu & the Cook Island region.

Thinking of taking my workshops online or in-person?

These are the 3 essential items you need to weave with me!

RARA’A takes swift fingers, attentive eyes, a sharp brain & a strong back to sit through it - other than that, a 🔪✂️🪡 are your best friends.

For PAE’ORE, I recommend buying it on Etsy! Since Etsy is an American site, searching “PAE’ORE” won’t give you many results. I suggest searching the Hawaiian name “Lauhala” & you should find plenty of it available.

Have a costume to complete for competition but don’t know how or where to begin? Let’s make hatua together using pae’ore! Woven hatua are not only belt for the waist but belt as a headband for hei ‘ūpo’o (headpiece) as well!

Grateful to the Bay Area Pacific Islander / Polynesian community, especially all my Samoan & Tongan family who have always embraced me (the authentic me) & my REAL Mā’ohi culture! Yesterday, you ladies did to awesome! Even though it took us a while to get there, you did it together! So happy to see others find the joy in Rara’a (weaving) - I hope you all learned something new.
