Acompáñanos en la inauguración de nuestra nueva librería amazónica con nuestro amigo y artista invitado Brus Rubio, quien compartirá sus perspectivas sobre cómo las culturas indígenas transmiten historias, sabiduría y cosmovisión, y cómo estás contrastan con el mundo literario de los libros y la investigación. También nos contará cómo sus obras de arte han sido presentadas como portadas de libros.

La Librería Amazónica de Xapiri Ground pretende ser un espacio de memoria, donde se puedan compartir ideas y difundir información sobre las historias, tanto pasadas como presentes, de la Amazonía. Además de la venta de libros, contará con una variada colección permanente de títulos y material impreso, así como otros objetos contemporáneos relacionados con el arte y el pensamiento amazónicos.

Esperamos que puedas acompañarnos en este evento especial. Te invitamos a llegar temprano, a las 5:00pm, para la visita guiada al nuevo espacio. La charla con Brus Rubio comenzará a las 6:00pm.

XAPIRI GROUND AMAZONIAN LIBRARY
a space for Amazonian memory,
with guest artist Brus Rubio Churay

Join us for the opening of our new Amazonian bookshop with our friend and guest artist Brus Rubio, who will share his insights into how indigenous cultures pass on stories, wisdom and worldviews, and how these contrast with the literary world of books and research. He will also tell us how his artwork has been featured on book covers.

The Xapiri Ground Amazonian Bookshop aims to be a space for memory, where ideas can be shared and information disseminated about the histories – both past and present – of the Amazon. In addition to selling books, it will house a varied permanent collection of titles and printed material, as well as other contemporary objects related to Amazonian art and thought.

We hope you’ll be able to join us for this special event. We invite you to arrive early, at 5:00 pm, for a guided tour of the new venue, drinks will be served. The talk with Brus Rubio will begin at 6:00 pm.

CRAFTING THE FIELD
Featured artist: Canto V. Engelhard / series 08

Canto V. Engelhard is a Peruvian artist and researcher, whose practice develops from the territory, performance, and sound design that moves towards poetic and socio environmental justice. In their work for series 08, Canto weaves a multiphonic landscape that seeks to resonate the reality of the Matsigenka territory of Shipetiari while also conveying its cultural poetics. Brought forth through the hands of many individuals with whom Canto imparted their recorders and microphones, they share an experience of listening or ‘nokemake;’ a word that describes “I am hearing” or “I have heard” in Matsigenka, absolving the self-as-artist and absorbing the collective possibilities.

Canto V. Engelhard es un artista e investigador peruane cuya práctica se desarrolla a partir del territorio, el performance y el diseño sonoro, con miras a la justicia poética y socioambiental. En su trabajo para la serie 08, Canto teje un paisaje multifónico que busca reflejar la realidad del territorio matsigenka de Shipetiari, al tiempo que transmite su poética cultural. Creadas por muchas manos a quienes Canto les prestó sus grabadoras y micrófonos, estas obras comparten una experiencia de escucha o «nokemake»; una palabra que significa «estoy escuchando» o «he escuchado» en matsigenka, absolviendo al yo como artista y absorbiendo las posibilidades colectivas.

FROM ROOTS TO SEEDS
A summary of our past event with Camino Verde

On the 12th of December, 2025, we hosted the founder of Camino Verde, Robin Van Loon, and Percy Leva, reforestation coordinator, who imparted their experiences of regenerating forests and livelihoods in the Peruvian Amazon and its interwovenness with the ancestral knowledge of forest peoples. In Madre de Dios and Loreto, Camino Verde promotes the planting of hundreds of native species and the restoration of degraded ecosystems, while boosting local economies that flourish alongside the forest.

Un resumen de nuestro evento pasado con Camino Verde

El 12 de diciembre de 2025, recibimos al fundador de Camino Verde, Robin Van Loon, y a Percy Leva, coordinador de reforestación, quienes compartieron sus experiencias sobre la regeneración de los bosques y los medios de vida en la Amazonía peruana, así como su relación con los conocimientos ancestrales de los pueblos bosquesinos. El pompori es un tipo de co**ha de caracol del bosque. En la comunidad de Shipetiari, Venancio nos enseñó este instrumento tan especial que, en su día, se utilizaba para llamar a amigos y familiares para que vinieran a compartir masato mientras trabajaban en el chakra.

THE CALL OF THE POMPORI

The pompori is a type of shell from a forest snail. In the community of Shipetiari, Venancio shared this special instrument with us, which, back in the day, was used to call friends and family members to come and share masato while working in the chakra.

WEAVING AND THE RITE OF PASSAGE
The origin of weaving is linked to the rite of passage and myths that shape the Matsigenka world, such as the myth of Eto, a spider woman who meets a young man in the forest and they fall in love.

Título de la obra: Cosmovisión Shipibo-Konibo de Cumancaya (2026)
Artista: Merly Bernabe

Aquí se representa la cosmovisión Shipibo-Konibo de Cumancaya en el río alto Ucayali, lugar arqueológico de origen sagrado y centro del universo donde la tierra se inclinó y emergió el pueblo para repoblar por cuarta vez. El rombo central en efecto 3D rojo-amarillo en Xao Kené materializa esa inclinación: la tierra que se alzó como diamante de barro. El Koros Kené del fondo es en memoria a las personas que habitaron y la cerámica sagrada de Cumancaya Cocha que se quebró, y de cuyas grietas nació el diseño ancestral. El borde marrón encierra con Beibana Kené para las nuevas generaciones. Cada patrón geométrico respira porque nació del estallido de las semillas del árbol cósmico.

Title: Cosmovisión Shipibo-Konibo de Cumancaya (2026)
Artist: Merly Bernabe

Depicted is the Shipibo-Konibo worldview of the Cumancaya located on the upper Ucayali River, an archaeological site of sacred origin and the center of the universe where the earth tilted and emerged to repopulate the village for the fourth time. The central red-and-yellow 3D-effect rhombus in the Xao Kené represents the embodiment of that tilt: the earth rising like a diamond painted from clay. The Koros Kené in the background commemorates the people who once lived there and the sacred pottery that crashed into Cumancaya Lake, from whose cracks this ancestral design was born. It is surrounded by the Beibana Kené for the new generations. Each geometric pattern breathes because it was born from the stalks of the seeds of the cosmic tree.

En esta obra, el Xao Kené se convierte en 3D y se multiplica hacia el infinito para la sanación, donde los Ikaros de las plantas se expanden. Al centro, la flor de Ayahuasca es Yoshin Inca (el espíritu que gobierna los 4 mundos): Jene Nete (el mundo del agua), Nete (la tierra donde habitamos), Non Nete (el mundo inferior) y Nai Nete (el mundo superior).

Todo alrededor llueve hojas reales de tono tierra, que se van desvaneciendo al curar el cuerpo humano. Son las plantas maestras que flotan en el espacio de la dieta, cada mancha es un espíritu vegetal, el diseño en 3D no es ilusión, es como el Onanya (curandero) mira en sus visiones de Ayahuasca.

In this work, the Xao Kené transforms into 3D and multiplies infinitely for healing, where the Ikaros of the plants grow. At the center, the Ayahuasca flower is Yoshin Inca (the spirit that governs the four worlds): Jene Nete (the world of water), Nete (the earth where we live), Non Nete (the underworld), and Nai Nete (the upper world).

All around the composition, real earth-toned leaves rain down, gradually fading away as they heal the human body. These are the master plants floating in the space of the ceremony; each mark is a plant spirit. The 3D design is not an illusion—it is how the Onanya (healer) sees in their Ayahuasca visions.
