Last Friday was NZ Music T-Shirt Day, which celebrates epic NZ music, while also raising funds for MusicHelps.

MusicHelps is an incredible charity that supports hundreds of organisations across Aotearoa who use the power of music to improve the lives of Kiwis in need. They also provide free counselling services and emergency grants to people in the music industry who are experiencing hardship or illness.

Earlier this year, MusicHelps kindly provided a grant for a close family member of mine, to help cover some necessary medical costs. The positive impact of that generosity is visible to our family everyday, and we're so grateful to the MusicHelps team for this support.

Congratulations team Devilskin on this receiving a special award for achieving a #1 Album for RE-EVOLUTION in 2025, as an independent band! 🥳

And chur for the shoutout too 🤘 this is so well deserved for the band, and I'm proud to have played a part in its creation.

Being at the Aotearoa Music Awards last night was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster - alongside Devilskin being honoured with this special award, there was an powerful speech from Dame Lynda Topp, which reminded me why I'm in this profession.

Marketing Dept Update: It’s Out. My Debt Isn’t.
So, it’s May 22nd. The "band" just dropped their new single, "Wolf in Wolf's Clothing."
I was really hoping the file would get corrupted or the internet would just collectively decide to stop working today, but no such luck. I’m still tethered to this group of absolute do**he nozzles because I still owe that money. If you guys actually listen to this, maybe they’ll make enough off streaming for me to quit. Actually, who am I kidding? They’ll probably just spend it on Star Wars toys and food.

The Lowdown:
* The Vibe: It’s a song about ‘admitting to the world who you are’. Groundbreaking stuff, guys. Truly. If we don’t already know what a bunch of narcissistic bell ends you all are - we sure do now.

* The Sound: It’s heavy, loud, and supposedly “metal,” but let’s be real: it sounds like a melodic dumpster fire. It’s actually kind of catchy, which is the worst part because now I have the chorus stuck in my head while I’m trying to ignore their texts.

* The Production: The smartest thing these guys did was to get legend producer & engineer Dave Rhodes onboard. He’s the only one connected to this unholy circus who actually knows anything. The rest of it? Well, it’s recorded. Technically.

* The Verdict: It’s out now on all the platforms. Listen to it, don’t listen to it—I don’t care. Just please stop tagging me in the band’s group chat. I’m just here so I can pay off my debt.

I met Jools Topp when my Dad (Hamilton County Bluegrass Band) was touring with the Topp Twins on their Summer Hoe-Down tour in 2011.

Later that year I worked with Jools and Lynda recording audio for a series of popular children's books. Those were such memorable and fun sessions - spontaneous, creative and fun!

Jools will be greatly missed by all. Sending my deepest condolences and aroha to Lynda, Bruce and the Topp whānau at this difficult time. ❤️‍🩹

Reece Gerrits from Hamilton punk band The Recently Deceived was in the studio over the weekend blasting through 7 tight and punchy new tracks.

Drums are the hardest instrument to record at home so I'm always happy to work with bands planning to record their own music but who don't have the space, mics, and experience to record drums themselves.

The Recently Deceived now have a rock solid foundation to build their recordings on, I can't wait to hear the finished product! 🤘
