Meet Laura Papple, a Whanganui-born and bred Master of Design graduate πŸŽ“πŸ‘ With a deep appreciation for the creative knowledge, talent and experience within her local community, Laura was inspired by artists living their dream and set out to do the same.

With great determination, Laura went on to complete both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at UCOL Whanganui, supported and inspired by the talent, care, and commitment of lecturers Dr Kathryn Wightman and Dr Richard Shepherd, whose guidance played a significant role in her creative journey.
Alongside their influence, past Master of Design graduate Wouna le Roux’s master’s practice became Laura’s north star throughout her studies, in terms of the level of depth, creation and thought process underpinning the final creative outcome.

Now officially graduated, Laura continues creating from her home studio and is working towards a solo exhibition next year, while remaining an active part of the Whanganui art scene. https://bit.ly/4vg8MN1

The Edith Gallery wishes a Happy birthday to our namesake Edith Collier (1885-1964) πŸŽ‚

Born in Whanganui, Collier was a pioneering modernist painter whose bold use of colour and form challenged the conventions of her time. After studying in Britain, she returned home with a radically expanded vision of what painting could be.

As part of its re-opening in 2024 her legacy was honoured through a major exhibition and publicationβ€”marking her enduring importance to the region.

This one for a real hometown hero.

The smaller frames in Richard Shepherd's show π™π™π™š π™‹π™šπ™©π™§π™žπ™›π™žπ™šπ™™ π™π™€π™§π™šπ™¨π™© , especially the series 'The Fence of the Teeth', have been crafted by Renata (who is probably busy still working on numerous other AOS projects right now!). Renata has an artist's eye and is always a pleasure to work with.

The large frames for Richard Shepherd's show π™π™π™š π™‹π™šπ™©π™§π™žπ™›π™žπ™šπ™™ π™π™€π™§π™šπ™¨π™© were custom made by the pros at Auckland outfit . They were great to collaborate with and their work resolves the pictures in the show perfectly.
