Hittaz for Hospice – Cars, Music and Community for a Cause
This Sunday, the Whanganui Racecourse will rumble to life as hundreds of cars, bikes and families come together for Hittaz for Hospice - a community car show with a big heart.
Hosted by the Jah Hittaz Car Club in partnership with Hospice Whanganui, the event runs from 10am to 3pm on Sunday 22 March, with gold coin entry.
What started as a shared passion for cars has grown into something much bigger for the Jah Hittaz crew.
Formed in 2022, the club brings together a group of local car enthusiasts, along with their partners and families, who believe strongly in giving back to their community. Supporting Hospice Whanganui is a cause close to their hearts, and Hittaz for Hospice is their way of turning horsepower into community support.
And it’s shaping up to be a big day.
Organisers are expecting a big turnout of cars and bikes, with everything from polished classics to street machines filling the racecourse grounds. There are 11 award categories, spot prizes, and a chance for locals to show off some of the best cars in the region.
Vehicle registrations are now closed online, but anyone keen to enter can still register on the day from 8am for $20.
But Hittaz for Hospice is about much more than cars.
The event will feature around 12 food trucks and 10 market stalls, along with coffee carts, entertainment and activities for the whole family.
Local musicians Lynnaire Simon and Lyall Koroheke will perform throughout the day, playing a mix of classic favourites, old and new, while New Zealand comedian Richie Faavesi keeps the crowd entertained as MC.
There will also be family-friendly activities such as face painting and hair braiding, helping make the day a great outing for people of all ages.
Thanks to the support of local businesses, many of the event costs and spot prizes have already been covered, meaning that close to 100 percent of the money raised will go directly to Hospice Whanganui.
Hospice Whanganui provides specialist palliative care to patients and their whānau across the region, helping families navigate some of life’s most difficult moments with compassion and support. Their services are provided free of charge, but they rely heavily on community fundraising to continue their work.
Events like Hittaz for Hospice are a powerful reminder of how a community can come together to support that care.
With a great weather forecast and a full day of cars, music, food and entertainment planned, organisers say the message is simple:
Come along, enjoy the day – and help support Hospice Whanganui.
