Our current exhibition is 'Time and Light'.

Twenty artists answered the call to alter a light or clock with the proviso that it had to remain in working order. The result is a fascinating exhibition showing the range of artists we have here in Whanganui.

We have two special openings coming up on Friday 4 and 11 September when the galleries will be open from 6.30 to 8.30pm to really show off the lights.

Normal opening times are 10am to 4pm daily. Do try and pop in when you are in town, this is a truly unique exhibition.

Last day is Sunday 13 September.

When the Arts Centre first opened in 1990, the shop at the front was established to sell artworks by local artists and was staffed by volunteers. With an increased workload and dwindling pool of volunteers it was decided, some years ago, to lease out the space instead. Various businesses have come and gone, but now we have come full circle; the shop is once again under the trust's control.

Peter Shepherd, who set up 'the boring gallery' and ran it very successfully for three years, joined the trust earlier this year. He volunteered to be the new coordinator of the shop, but this time supported by the other trustees who have taken on various other tasks.

Peter has got a group of 15 artists together, some familiar faces and some new ones. They each have their own dedicated space in the shop. They are responsible for setting it up and refreshing what's on offer. We decided to keep the same name for the shop but gave the space a fresh paint job and installed more lighting.

We are very happy with how it looks and are looking forward to hearing your reactions. Do come in, check it out and give us your feedback.

The current exhibition in the Front Gallery is by John Singleton.

He is showing a range of paintings, as well as some of his pottery, in which he uses his painting skills to great effect.

John is in the gallery most days, working on new ideas, so do come in and have a chat.

The last day is Sunday 23 August.

We had the lovely Jayeta Valentine from New Plymouth at the centre last Sunday, teaching her Inky Magic workshop.

When I caught up with them in the afternoon, I found 12 happy people from around the region creating fabulous art. They were all doing the 'same' and yet they were all different. They described it as very meditative and relaxing.

Thank you Jayeta, we hope to see you back again sometime with another fabulous workshop.

The Front and Back Galleries are closed for a few weeks to allow us to carry out some essential maintenance.

The lessee in the Boring Gallery is finishing at the end of July. There is a really good value sale on at the moment, so do come in and check it out.

From 1 Aug, the Boring Gallery will be closed for refurbishment and will reopen under new management later in the month.

Both galleries are fully booked from the end of August till the end of the year, so lots of exciting exhibitions to look forward to.
