A Symphony of Six Hands in Triple Harmony

To enhance the patrons’ ability to marvel at the dexterity of three pianists performing on one piano, as well as increase their overall listening pleasure, Music Whakatane has sourced from local audio-visual company WAVS a giant 4.5m x 2.5m rear projection screen onto which will be projected a high-angle view of the keyboard. The size of the screen will mean that even those at the back will have an excellent view.

Triple Harmony brings together pianists Matteo Napoli, Camila De Oliveira and Flavio Villani for an evening of dazzling six-handed piano music. Sharing a single piano, the trio explores a colourful programme filled with virtuosity, humour, lyricism and theatrical flair.

From the sparkling brilliance of Mozart and Rossini to the Spanish-inspired rhythms of De Falla, this concert celebrates the joy of making music together. The rarely-heard works of Czerny and Fodor showcase the extraordinary possibilities of three pianists performing at one keyboard, creating textures and sonorities far beyond what a single performer could achieve alone.

At times elegant, at times exuberant, and always entertaining, Triple Harmony offers audiences a chance to experience the piano in a completely different way.

Submissions are now open for our seventh annual composition competition, Compose Aotearoa!

For almost five decades our national choirs have benefitted from, and contributed to, the creation of new choral works in Aotearoa. With this competition we aim to encourage the development of choral writing in Aotearoa and provide a high-quality workshop opportunity for the winning pieces.

We invite submissions for choral works under one of four divisions, including a brand-new category for 2026: the Pacific Language category. A prize of $2,000 will be awarded to the winner of each division.

Come along to this Edgecumbe Choir concert to experience some of Handel's lesser-known Coronation Anthems - and yes, there is also the famous 'Zadok the Priest'.
It's also a great opportunity to hear pianist Noriko Yamamoto play keyboard works JS Bach.

Tauranga-born opera singer Anna Mahon is returning home in July for a special performance in support of the local branch of the Registered Music Teachers.
Mahon will perform at Wesley Church on Thirteenth Ave at 2pm on Sunday, July 19, accompanied by pianist Francis Cowan. Following the concert she will conduct a masterclass at 3.30pm with which will be open to the public to attend.
Now based in Switzerland, the soprano has built an international opera career while maintaining strong ties to her hometown and the Bay of Plenty music community.
Anna Mahon’s concert is at 2pm, July 19 at Wesley Church, Thirteenth Ave, followed by the masterclass at 3.30pm.
Concert tickets cost $30 for adults and $10 for students, and masterclass tickets cost $20 for adults and $5 for students.

Music Whakatane is presenting its annual 'Local Musicians' concert on Saturday 22 August at 7pm at the Church of St George & St John. Eastern Bay Community Foundation is thrilled to let you know that the EBOP Music Development Fund will be opening for applications next month!
As a vital part of our local music community, we would love your help in spreading the word to any young musicians, students, or families who could benefit from this support.
The fund is designed to help local talent aged 10 to 25 take the next step in their musical journey. Whether they need help covering the cost of lessons, purchasing new gear, or attending workshops and competitions, this funding is here to help remove those financial barriers.
There are three grants available of up to $500 each, applications are invited from Musicians and music students aged 10-25 in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
Grants can cover Music development, lesson costs, equipment/instruments, competition fees or workshops.

Applications Open: 1 July – 31 July 2026.
If you know a young person who is passionate about their music, please encourage them to apply.
