Good evening whanau,

Our whakangahau/ junior group performs on stage tomorrow at 10.30am and will need to catch the bus at 9.15am. Can parents who have children in the junior Kapa haka group please bring their children to school in the morning early from 7am so that they can get dressed and ready before they board the bus.

If there are any parents who are able to please help with dressing children in their kakahu/stage dress this would be greatly appreciated.

So proud of our tamariki for their efforts in learning their waiata and haka over the past few months. Recently they enjoyed having their first kakahu (stage dress) fitting. These are some of our students representing Edgecumbe Primary (Te roopu ō Te Patutātahi) in our whakangahau (entertainment) group for the 2022 Rangitaiki Kapa Haka Festival.

Special thank you to Edgecumbe College for kindly lending our children with piupiu for the event.

Tino ataahua Nga tamariki ō Te Patutātahi!

With that being said whaea Frances, Matua Matt and I will be needing parent helpers on the Thursday morning of the 29/09/22 in week 10 please to help children get dressed and prepared for their big day.

If you also would like more information regarding the event details please join the Rangitaiki Kapa Haka Festival community page for further updates and listen out for advertising via Tumeke Fm. Notices will also be sent home regarding our school organisation.

The festival is to be held on Thursday the 29th and Friday the 30th of September and is to be proudly hosted by Tuhoe kura. This years event includes a line up of 13 kura from around the Mataatua ki Rangitaki rohe. A special welcome to Nukuhou North School who will be participating in the Rangitaiki Kapa Haka Festival for the first time in many years.

Our tamariki, kaiako/staff, tutors, whanau and the host kura committee and the Rangitaiki Kapa Haka Delegate Committee, have all been working very hard over the past few months in preparation for the 2022 Rangitaiki Kapa Haka Festival.

Below is an attached link of the order of performance for both festival dates.

Tickets will be available on the event dates only (29/09/22 and 30/09/22) and these will be available for purchase as door sales only at the Whakatane War Memorial Hall main entrance. A Panui will also be sent home to update parents/caregivers and whanau of both the Festival event and also the upcoming dress rehearsal in week 9 to be held at the Edgecumbe College School Hall for parents, families and the community. Note: we ask that, due to the requirement to keep our kapa Haka bracket/s for both groups confidential, please parents/whanau refrain from recording the performance during the dress rehearsal. Kia Ora koutou,

Our whakataetae (competitive) groups first noho marae was a success and our tamariki worked hard over the weekend on their bracket.

Whaea Frances, Matua Matt and I would like to also thank the many parents and whanau for all the amazing contributions of food, time and support to make both this noho marae and campaign possible - we and the students are all very grateful for the aroha. Special thanks to Whaea Riley and Whaea Dee for guiding our tamariki during their 2022 Kapa haka journey.

I would like to also extend a huge mihi to our main kaiako/tutor whaea Frances for her endless hours of mahi and dedication to this kaupapa and also Matua Matt for stepping in as our kura delegate and supporting our tamariki as we prepare for the 2022 Rangitaiki Kapa Haka Festival. The dates for both our groups to perform is Thursday 29th of September (whakangahau- junior team) and Friday 30th September (whakataetae - senior competitive).

With that being said we have 4 weeks to go until our first dress rehearsal (week 9) and 5 weeks until the big competition as we proudly enter both our groups in their respective categories to participate alongside 23 other groups from various schools around the Mataatua ki Rangitaiki region & across all three categories (whakangahau, novice and whakangahau). We look forward to continuing with both brackets over the coming weeks and can not wait until parents, whanau and our school get to see all the hard work both roopu are putting in.

Taua ki te tu te kura ō Patutatahi!

Ngā mihi nu
