A couple of wee updates to our timetable, everyone!!
We welcome Em, to Thursday night's Beginner 2 and Pole Flow sessions!! And a very special hello to our freshest and newest conditioning class, 'Cross Train Pole' on Wednesdays at 12pm with Rachael!

‘Cross Train Pole’ is a whole-body conditioning class which emphasises work on opposing/antagonist muscle groups for the purpose of strength, control and a healthy practice of pole dance. This class includes biomechanical breakdowns and explanations, alongside myofascial release work, counter-techniques, and a strong emphasis on mindfulness to help develop students’ understanding of a range of movement related concepts. Cross training for pole is a mid-energy class with calming music, suitable for students of all levels.

And don't forget that all levels of students can also join Maree on Mondays at 12pm for 'Pole Jam,' a free-flowing pole dance and technique class, and Ileia's prime-time ‘Floorwork Fundamentals’ classes, perfect for when you’d rather roll around on the floor than climb a pole!

New instructor announcement!😃

We are super excited to welcome amazing performer, Em Flux to our Body Electric instructor cohort! Join them for classes starting this week: Beginner 2 and Pole Flow on Thursday evenings.

Em's pole journey began in 2021, stemming from an idea that pole might compliment their cabaret performances. They began as a casual student and finally took the leap into being a committed pole dancer after watching a live pole show for the first time in 2023!

Em's happy place is the stage - they have a background in ballet, tap and drag, and love to use their skills to create unique and entertaining performances. At the studio you can often find them choreographing flowy dance routines or practicing lovely bendy shapes.

Em is passionate about working with students to overcome challenges & find their own unique styles. They can't wait to see you in pole and dance classes and help you achieve your pole goals!

Book in now for Flow and Beginner 2 classes with Em! We are sure they will be an absolute joy. ❤

EMCEE WORKSHOP with Sadie von Scrumptious

This Saturday we are running an Emcee workshop taught by the one-and-only Sadie von Scrumptious!
Sadie is one of New Zealand's fabulous cabaret emcees. Over fifteen years, she's hosted shows with Caburlesque, Body Electric, Cabaret Coven, and more. Now she's sharing emceeing essentials and a chance to try the microphone at a workshop with Body Electric!
The workshop is suitable for anyone who is curious about what emceeing a cabaret show looks like. Whether you have never emceed anything before, or if you want some fresh ideas to jazz up your own work, Sadie will guide you through ideas and exercises designed to get your creative juices flowing!

Exciting news!! We welcome the talented Carla to the Body Electric instructor team! Carla will be covering our Tuesday night Pole Flow classes for the next wee while, and we can't wait to enjoy her sassy style!

Better known on stage as Paloma, Carla has been dancing her way through life for decades. She fell in love with performing through musicals, local shows, and the magic of the stage—and she hasn't stopped moving since!

With a background in ballet, jazz, contemporary, ballroom, and Latin dance, she's always up for trying a new style (because why choose just one?). Upon moving to Aotearoa New Zealand, she took her passion for Latin dance to the competition floor, placing 2nd in the NZ Salsa Open in 2014 and 1st in 2015.

After taking a break from dance for a few years, Carla then wandered into her first pole class in 2022...and it was love at first invert! From that moment on, she was hooked.

These days, you'll find her exploring all kinds of pole styles, always adding a generous sprinkle of sass, musicality, and fun. Whether you're nailing your first spin, conquering an invert, or just coming along for a laugh, Carla's classes are all about celebrating progress, building confidence, and enjoying every step (and spin!) of the journey. Expect plenty of encouragement, a few giggles, and permission to unleash your inner performer—because life is simply more fun upside down.

Burning Star: Freestyle Pole Show
Welcome to 'Burning Star' Body Electric's new and outrageous champions league freestyle battle royale: No losers - only winners! Watch brave pole warriors take to the stage and dance to music they've never heard the likes of before. Grab your popcorn, peeps! It's an evening of ferocious freestyle pole, and nobody knows what song is up next!
Saturday 18th July, 7pm, Body Electric Pole Dance Studio
All levels are welcome, from beginners to advanced, students and instructors. It’s an in-house show (held at the studio) but anyone can be involved. Get up on stage and freestyle to your favourite type of music. It’s not a competition. It’s a showcase just for fun!
2 chances to dance for everyone. Solo freestyle. Double freestyle.
Static & Spin poles available.
Photos and videos of all performances. Pretty lighting and a supportive audience made up of Body Electric people, friends & family.
How to take part: Email us with the following info: [email protected]
- Name, stage name, pronouns
- Genres of music you like to dance to (rock, pop, retro, R&B, slow, fast etc…)
- 4 songs you like to dance to
- $20 entry fee (we will provide details in an email)
More details about how the show will run will be in a follow up email after you have entered.
First in first served! If we get loads of entries, we might have to cap numbers. But we’ll do our best to include as many people as possible.
In the lead up to Burning Star, we are focusing on freestyle practice in several ways.
- Showography class Mondays 6pm. Lots of freestyle practice – we’ll guide you through ways to dance in your own style. All levels welcome.
- Extra practice sessions closer to the day
- Ideas for freestyle practice in our regular classes (especially Grooves and Flow)
- Ask instructors for advice
