Our heartfelt thanks to everyone in Tāmaki Makaurau who came from near and far to attend and support our little show 'Digging to Cambodia' at the Basement Theatre.

It has been a journey and we are so blessed to have been able to share it with you all, considering these uncertain times both with Covid and prevalent Asian hate crimes. Despite all of these things, we have been held, and supported.

The feedback we have received from those who watched it, validates the reason why these kinds of connections are so important and pertinent especially to us as the artists of this work.

We don't do this just for ourselves, this is not only my story, these are our stories. We can only hope that it spurs others to do the same.

We could not have done this without the persistent Nisha Madhan for inviting us, our dear friends Ahilan Karunaharan, Karnan Saba, Anya Tate Manning, and Tawata Productions for the initial invitation to include us.

Much love, alofas to you all.

Signing out for now,

Sarita Keo Kossamak So and Natano Keni of I Ken So Productions

Memory and history are notions that I have and shall forever be both fascinated and confused by. 15 years ago, I set out to explore these aspects in relation to the horrors that occurred in Cambodia during the years known as the ‘Killing Fields’. Not having gone through this experience myself, only through films, historical archives and the memories of my parents has created a rather surreal understanding and relationship to my country nostalgia and a heightened romanticism for a time before. The harbouring of memories that don’t belong to me, the making – unreliability of memory and the loss of it. The remaking of history, who writes history, who can?
