We often get calls and emails asking if we frame tapa, to which we always reply, Yes, we do frame tapa!

When hinging tapa cloth - which is made from paper mulberry - we use Japanese-made mulberry paper. The fibres bond well, creating a firm hold for mounting the work.

If you're a regular in our Karori shop, you might be wondering where Gemma has got to. She left us last October to work towards her first solo show at Toi Pōneke Gallery. While we miss her terribly, it's been exciting to see what she's produced.

Featuring a range of drawings, prints, and paintings developed through her soundwalking practice, Gemma's exhibition closes Thursday 5 February, with a live performance.

We've been having fun creating unique finishes to frame a set of Julia Morison works. Inspired by the organic and mineral elements of her pieces, we've experimented with various combinations of sand, gesso, black mica flakes, crackle paste, and gold leaf. Keep an eye on upcoming posts to see what alchemical concoction our customer has selected.

Aiding in this process is our resident alchemist, Jessica Rozencwajg. A printmaker who indulges in jewelry making on the side, Jessica's creative and practical skills are a major asset in our workshop. Visit .daze to see examples of her own practice.

We love framing works with the natural look of a wood frame. Its warm tones are often the perfect accompaniment for your art.

We stock a wide range of specialty wood mouldings, some of which have been made exclusively for us by the good folks at Crawford Mouldings, in Otautahi Christchurch.

It's been a year since we opened our Lyall Bay studio!

A huge thanks to everyone who has framed with us in this time. It's been fun meeting new people and being right by the beach (and spending more time in the surf!).

If you haven't checked out the new studio yet, come on by, we're at Unit 54, 70 Kingsford Smith Street. You'll find a focused range of frames to choose from, our 'greatest hits' if you will.

Our studio in Karori is where you'll find an expanded range. It's the place to come if you're searching for something very particular. It's also where we do the making side of things: chopping, joining, assembling, and finishing your frames.

This oil painting on unstretched canvas by the Czech artist Gertrud Kauders has been float-mounted with a deep mat window. The gold frame balances the beautiful, soft colours in the painting.

It’s been incredible to learn about Gertrud Kauders’ story. She died in a concentration camp during World War II, but in 2018, about 680 of her artworks were discovered in the ceiling of a decrepit house in Prague. Some of the collection is now with her family here in New Zealand.

The hand torn edges of this many layered screenprint are such an interesting feature of the work. We’ve plinth mounted this piece on a dark mat to accentuate the edges and create a lovely depth.
