"I liked how they were all enjoying performing. And I learnt a lot from it – how alcohol affects your brain. I would recommend it to my friends to learn about the risks of drinking alcohol and how to respond in those peer pressure situations." - Jatin Lal, Year 9 student, Palmerston North Boys' High School

We're loving travelling around the country sharing our stories and helping kids to learn how to tackle peer pressure!

We've reached almost 10,000 kids so far during our nationwide tour of Smashed Project. Here's what our pack-in looks like - though a little faster than usual 😅 We had a great time on Wednesday at Aquinas College, Tauranga. A big shout out to our friends at TECT who have supported our work in the Bay of Plenty, to Year 9 Dean Jacq Burrell from Aquinas for hosting us and for the Year 9 kids who were awesome during our workshop! 👏🏽

Tackling underage drinking and peer pressure

Internationally acclaimed theatre-based education programme SMASHED is now in New Zealand! Aimed at equipping year 9 students with the skills they need to counter peer pressure to drink alcohol, SMASHED was established in the UK in 2005 and will this year be delivered in 21 countries worldwide.

The programme aims to reach 18,000 Year 9 students nationwide this year and next year, be rolled out to all 60,000 Year 9 students. Each performance is followed by an interactive workshop where pupils will be invited to probe the cast on issues brought up during the play and discuss the consequences of underage drinking.

Brought to NZ as part of responsible drinking initiative the Tomorrow Project and delivered by the Life Education Trust.
