IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT for students of Italian descent.. and their parents.. from Club Garibaldi (Wellington, NZ)

Melhop Study Award - Application deadline extended to 31 July 2026!

***

The Melhop Trust Scholarship (a.k.a. the Melhop Study Award) is an annual award administered by Club Garibaldi.

It supports students of Italian heritage engaged in formal studies, in fields like the arts, architecture, and language.

Key Requirements:

Heritage - applicants must be of Italian heritage.

Age - applicants must be 30 years or younger at the time of application.

Field of Study - formal studies or projects in Italian language / literature (including migrant histories), vocal/instrumental music, graphic arts, architecture, or engineering.

How to Apply:

Applications must be submitted in writing and clearly cite the proposed course of academic study or project, alongside proof of Italian heritage.

As a lot of you may already know, especially those who live in or who are connected to Island Bay Little Italy, thanks to the very healthy local Italian Grapevine.. Maria Di Leva has written her first and only book called "For the Love of Mathew - A Mother's Story".

With the help of fellow Club member Rosina Van Der Aa, Maria's 62 foolscap page hand-written manuscript is in the process of being turned into a soft-cover A5 80 page book.

Pre-orders opened today, just 8 weeks after they first met to kick-off this very special "passion" project. NB: no up-front payment required.

The exact release date TBC, but all going to plan it will be late January / early February 2026.
