Enjoy Contemporary Art Space is the longest running artist-led gallery in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand, established in June 2000. Run by artists for artists, Enjoy generates and facilitates artistic experimentation, supporting the creation of new work and challenging artists to take risks, while promoting critical discourse around contemporary practice in Aotearoa. Governed

by a board of trustees, in a Tia Tuarua Co-Chair model, Enjoy strives to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi through our strategic leadership and work with artists. We acknowledge Te Āti Awa/Taranaki ki Te Upoko o Te Ika and the neighbouring Ngāti Toa iwi as the mana whenua of this region and rightful custodians of the land upon which we stand. Enjoy delivers our programme with investment of our primary funders Creative New Zealand Arts Council Toi Aotearoa, and additional support from Wellington City Council, community funding and fundraising initiatives.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: ENJOY SUMMER RESIDENCY 2027

Applications are now open for Enjoy's 2027 Summer Artist Residency programme, delivered in partnership with the Rita Angus Cottage.

This is a six-week residency from late January – early March 2027, and includes accommodation and a studio/workspace at the historic Rita Angus Cottage, a stipend, and the opportunity for a subsequent project with Enjoy (this may take the form of a programme, seminar, exhibition, etc).

Applications are due 5pm Sunday 27 September.

Included in Telly Tuita's exhibition Silent Screams of Memories is a new moving image work by Jamie Berry. Boy with Red Apple is the first installment in a planned three part series about Tuita's life. The film explores Tuita's early years in Tonga.

Enjoy is pleased to present Dawn of Dreams 夢之初, opening from 5:30pm on Wednesday 2 September. The exhibition will run until Saturday 5 September.

Dawn of Dreams 夢之初 film is a transnational film work tracing an embodied migratory journey through cinematic composition, experimental guzheng performance, and mark-making. The film was made across China and New Zealand. Written, produced, performed, and directed by Zed Xu in collaboration with cinematographer Nick Willoughby and original score by Jefferson Chen (Goodspace).

The live performance negotiates time, space, the body and material encounter to enquire into migratory belongings. Performed to the film’s original score, the work asks whether a racialised body can truly belong, or remain in constant transit and flux.

This exhibition has been curated by Enjoy’s 2026 intern, Jieying Cai. Come song to celebrate the end of Jieying’s internship!
