🛸 You saw it first at NZIFF… now Kiwi horror-comedy hit, Mum I’m Alien Pregnant is launching in cinemas throughout Aotearoa from Thursday 10 Sept 🛸

The gooey and gloriously chaotic tale of an unlikely cosmic conception, MIAP tells the story of millennial slacker Mary, who finds herself playing host to an extraterrestrial embryo after an encounter with her abnormal neighbour. Alongside the gags and gross-out bodily fluids, it touches on bigger themes of bodily autonomy, consent, and the challenges of pregnancy in a patriarchal system.

Coward is our closing night festival hit - see it on Sunday evening (6 Sept) in Hawke's Bay, Hamilton, Matakana, New Plymouth, Tauranga, Masterton and Nelson!

When a group of soldiers on the desolate Western Front form a cabaret act to escape the misery and entertain the troops, stoic farmer Pierre starts having feelings for fellow officer Francis. With stunning cinematography, the unlikely love story turns into an inspirational tale of choosing one's own fate, against all odds.

Coward's lead actors Emmanuel Macchia and Valentin Campagne turned international critic's heads at Cannes, where they were joint winners of the coveted Best Actor award.

Hollywood heavyweight Jude Law has uncanny valley vibes as Russian president Putin in The Wizard of the Kremlin - your Friday night festival flick in Hawke's Bay, Hamilton, Matakana, New Plymouth, Tauranga, Masterton and Nelson!

This political thriller features poker-faced threats, shifting alliances and plenty of smoke and mirrors as it delves into modern-day Russia’s return to totalitarian rule with Putin at the helm, alongside his spin-doctor sidekick, loosely based on real life Putin aide Vladislav Surkov. A charming sleeper hit at this year’s festival - Late Fame is on tomorrow night (Thurs 3rd) in Hawke’s Bay, Hamilton, Matakana, New Plymouth, Tauranga, Masterton and Nelson 🎬🍿

Critics have heaped praise on Willem Dafoe for his starring role as Ed, an easy-going post office worker and poet, who finds unexpected fandom from a group of uni students who stumbled across the long-forgotten poetry book he published decades earlier. Flattered by the attention, especially from flamboyant group leader Gloria (a show-stealing Greta Lee), he starts toiling on new material as the literary in-crowd show him a new side to Manhattan.

A powerful and deeply personal doco from Pōneke filmmaker Gwen Isaac, Be Merry has pulled sell-out crowds throughout the fest!

Raised in 1980s Kororāreka Russell by Merrilyn, aka 'mad Merry', an artist whose life became local folklore, Gwen returns to her hometown to untangle fact from family legend. Gwen's third film is a raw, honest and irreverent attempt to get to the bottom of who her mother really was, and at the same time, reclaim her own narrative from a ghost that still looms large.

The wait is finally over - we're rolling in Hawke's Bay, Hamilton, Matakana, New Plymouth, Tauranga, Masterton and Nelson! 🎉

This year's fest is on from 27 Aug - 6 or 9 Sept (depending on where you are). We're so excited to screen a carefully curated selection of top movies - some straight out of Cannes and many that you won't see anywhere else, as well as a stellar selection of Aotearoa-made favourites, winning short films and festival hits.

Starring Rami Malek in a knockout lead role, The Man I Love is part of the festival late additions list.

Set in late 1980s New York, the story follows established actor Jimmy (Malek), who is navigating life following an AIDS diagnosis. While rehearsing for a play, his relationship with devoted boyfriend Dennis is put to the test by Vincent, the hot new neighbour.🔥

See The Man I Love at Wellington's Embassy Theatre at 6pm, 27 Aug, Christchurch's Lumiere on 27 and 29 Aug, and Dunedin's Rialto on 31 Aug.
