NZQA Ringa Toi Exhibition An annual exhibition at Te Papa that showcases the artwork of secondary school students with a focus on Toi Māori and Pacific Arts at Excellence level.

Ko te whare nei i parua iho ki te muka rāwhiti, ki te neko, ki te kaitaka, ki te pakipaki – hei mātakitaki mō te ao whānui e. Ringa Toi is an annual exhibition that showcases the artwork of secondary school students with a focus on Toi Māori. Work displayed is at Excellence level, and showcases a range of Māori art for

ms including raranga, kākahu (wearable art), tukutuku, tāniko, whakairo, kōwhaiwhai, mahi-tā (paint, print, spray), uku, whakapakoko (sculpture) and mahi-matihiko (digital).

🤍♥️🖤 The 2025 Ringa Toi Exhibition opened on Monday 15 September at Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington.

The ceremony began with a blessing of the taonga and whakatau by Te Papa, followed by welcoming speeches from Toi Māori Aotearoa and NZQA, and an announcement of the 2025 category award winners. A big mihi to all who attended, especially the student artists, their kura, kaiako, and whānau who travelled near and far to celebrate the occasion.

156 student artworks are being displayed on Rongomaraeroa Marae (Level 4) at Te Papa until 27 September. If you haven't already, you can visit the exhibition from 10am-6pm daily.

A special mention also to our 2025 Kaiwhakawā (Judges) -Regan Balzer and Michel Tuffery, for judging this year's exhibition and running awesome workshops for all our exhibition artists and guests!

We are seeking registrations of interest from schools and kura who would like to submit student artwork to be considered for this year’s milestone exhibition.

The exhibition will showcase outstanding Toi Māori and Pacific Arts.

🎬✨Hear from ākonga as they share the stories behind their mahi toi and what it means to have their work displayed at Te Papa as part of the 2024 Ringa Toi Exhibition.

Over 120 rangatahi from 45 schools and kura across Aotearoa participated in the exhibition that concluded on 27 September.

The exhibition showcases the arts excellency of secondary school students with a focus on Toi Māori and Pasifika arts.

We are excited to announce the People’s Choice winners for the 2024 Ringa Toi Exhibtion!

1st Place - Taine Hinga, Rotorua Boys’ High School (103 votes)
2nd Place - Streme Clarke, Pukekohe High School (101 votes)
3rd Place - Benjamin Hepi Brown, Ōtāhuhu College (70 votes)

Ōtāhuhu College students expressing what Whakairo at kura means to them and the stories behind their Whakairo pieces in this year’s exhibition!

Exhibiting artists Jacob Paul and Benjamin Hepi Brown both took out the Whakairo category this year receiving the Highly Commended and Commended awards.
