Massey University recently wrote an article about the "urgent, passionate and thrilling" stories told in UNDERTOW, which took more than six years to develop.

The epic new TV series has a special relationship with Massey’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, which has hosted Te Rākau as its ‘Māori Theatre Company in Residence’ since 2014, supporting UNDERTOW's stage and screen development.

UNDERTOW PREMIER - MĀORI TELEVISION, 9.30PM THURSDAY 31 OCTOBER

From the arrival of the first settler ships and the gentrified Port Nicholson, to our complex war history and current day urban development, UNDERTOW is a bold and fearless journey into our country’s past, present and future.

It is the story of both Māori and Pākeha, of ordinary people who lived during extraordinary times in Aotearoa’s history, and the timeless pursuit of somewhere to call home.
