Latin America and Spain Film Festival LASFF is a nonprofit cultural event based on contemporary cinematographic productions from Latin America and Spain.

The Latin America & Spain Film Festival (LASFF) is a cultural event dedicated to contemporary cinematographic productions from Latin America and Spain. Moreover, it is a non-profit event that aims to bring together Latin American, Spanish, and other New Zealand communities through the big screen. The Festival is run by all the Latin American and Spanish Embassies residents in Wellington and has be

come so popular that during 2019, when 10 movies were featured, approximately 7,000 spectators enjoyed the films. This year’s Festival has 9 participating nations: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, and Spain. The film selection includes a wide range of genres, topics, and styles, giving the general public and cinephiles a chance to immerse themselves into the languages – Spanish and Portuguese – as well as the cultural and social aspects of our countries. While still based in Wellington, LASFF will be travelling all over New Zealand with the support of academics, cultural associations, and students.

In a country where sausage sizzles are everywhere, only one thing can be said about film Designation of Origin: come watch it! 🇨🇱
is a comedy that pays respect to Chileans and their tradition. After the injustice of being robbed of the prize for the best longaniza sausage in Chile, a spontaneous social movement surfaces in the small town of San Carlos, looking to obtain the precious “Denomination of Origin” and recover the pride and dignity.

The comedy Saneamento básico or "Basic Sanitation, The Movie" is a film within a film, exploring amateur filmmaking and community collaboration.
The film features a notable Brazilian cast, including Fernanda Torres , , , , and . Directed and written by Jorge Furtado, it is set in the small rural community of Linha Cristal, where residents come together to build a septic system along the stream and put an end to the foul smell. 🚽
Marina, the leader of the initiative, discovers that the local council only has enough funding this year to produce a fiction film. She and her husband Joaquim then decide to make a movie about a monster that emerges in the midst of the sanitation works...

Also known as LASFF, our film festival is celebrating its 24th edition, bringing together Latin American, Spanish, and Kiwi communities through the cinema. Featuring eight films on the big screen, the festival is organised by the Latin American and Spanish embassies and is completely free, reaching audiences in 10 cities across Aotearoa New Zealand! 🆓
