Congrats to Intimacy Pōneke's very own Carrie Thiel for her new role at BATS Theatre as Creative Producer. We are so excited to see how her intimacy expertise will change this industry.
BATS Theatre is delighted to announce the appointment of Carrie Thiel, as Creative Producer, and Neenah Dekkers-Reihana (Ngāpuhi), as Programmer. These are two newly created roles developed to support BATS’ new initiatives, such as the Co-Pro Model, BATS Artist Residencies and our upcoming Digital Delivery Unit.
Carrie's career has spanned live theatre and digital performance, dance, music and stunts. She values the relationships she has built in a variety of arenas including digital visual arts, mixed reality and video production. She sees interdisciplinary, experimental and collaborative work as essential to the evolution of our industry and a reflection of social context and current times. She may be most known in BATS circles for her work as an Intimacy and Fight Director and her MFA show, a VR Immersive Theatre production "Dance Me to the End" which showed at BATS in the Six Degrees Festival 2020.
We’re stoked to have Neenah back after her Programming Internship which culminated with Maramataka in Fringe 2020, which was unfortunately only presented once due to COVID-19. Neenah is a much loved and respected member of the BATS whānau. Her knowledge of BATS’ whakapapa and mana makes her leadership as we move into the future of what BATS could be essential. Ka mua, ka muri! Right now, Neenah’s focus is rewriting the many roles she’s played in her career. Renaming. Reclaiming. Reconstructing.
We hope you will join us to welcome these wāhine toa to the BATS team. Nau mai, haere mai, piki mai to Carrie and Neenah!
