Thank you to everyone who attended the opening of Wayne Youle’s exhibition ‘Back in Five’ at the Dowse Art Museum in Lower Hutt.

Developed in partnership with The Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū, ‘Back in Five’ surveys twenty years of Youle’s sculptural practice.

On show until 18 October, the exhibition has been installed beautifully by the Dowse team.

A huge congratulations to {Suite} artist, Hamilton-born Richard Lewer, winner of the 2026 Archibald Art Prize for his portrait of Pitjantjatjara Elder and artist Iluwanti Ken.

A regular entrant in the Archibald Art Prize since 2017, this award follows a period of significant success for Lewer on both sides of the Tasman. Most recently, we presented a compendium of 52 paintings at the Aotearoa Art Fair, a body of work titled ‘Breathe In Breathe Out’.

Meanwhile, The National Gallery of Australia’s exhibition, ‘Steve’, features an animated film and painting series built from thousands of hand-painted frames, portraying a family coming to terms with a dementia diagnosis. After its Canberra showing (until 12 July), ‘Steve’ will tour regional Australian galleries for three years.

It was a pleasure to have Jeffrey Harris at {Suite} for the opening of his exhibition of new paintings, and artist talk that was part the VIP programme for the Aotearoa Art Fair.

Jeffrey’s exhibition runs until 30 May at 189 Ponsonby Road.

Jake Walker presented his first exhibition at {Suite} late last year. The show included two big stretched canvas works and several intimately scaled abstract paintings set in distinctive handmade ceramic frames.

Since the exhibition, Jake has sent us six new works that can be viewed at the gallery or online (use the link in bio).

Wayne Youle and Ans Westra first collaborated in 2013. Using sign vinyl material Youle added his risible touch to Westra’s silver gelatin prints, sparking a dynamic union between two artists who had great respect for each other.

‘The Best Stories Ever Told, Revisited’ showcased a set of photographs Westra captured in New York City in 1987, just before the stock market crash. For the first time, Youle used technology to alter Westra’s images, marking the start of a new phase of their collaboration. Thank you to everyone who visited the presentation at Jutta Gallery, Manhattan, New York.
