New Look! New Name! New Diagnoses!

DAT Fest 2024 coming in hot!
The Team is assembled and ready to bring you the most inclusive festival in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Stay tuned for announcements, ways to get involved, and all around excitement! We can't wait to share what we have planned.

Image Description:
Our new logo, styled like folded up paper or a poster that's seen the worst of the Wellington wind. A pink explosion with stars on some points, a green explosion in the centre of the pink. "dat fest" is in large blue letters in dyslexie font in the middle of the green. The words "Disabled Artists' Theatre Festival" in upper case are curved around the green splodge; and the words "coming soon to Te Whanganui-a-Tara" are in smaller font. Designed by Liv Ward.

There is now a parliamentary petition as well, please sign this one too, even if you have already signed the one I shared earlier.
Whaikaha (the ministry of disabled people) announced what functionally amounts to funding cuts for disabled people's support, with no consultation or warning. It's disgusting and must be stopped.
Check the comments for my friend Etta's excellent opinion piece explaining more on the issue.

Petitions are addressed to the House of Representatives and ask that the House do something about a policy or law, or put right a local or private concern.

Copy and pasted info starts:
The launch:
The New Zealand library of Earcatch is launching on Monday 14th August! As you’ll recall, we have funding for up to 1000 titles over the year - so for the sustainability of our team’s workload (as well as for your viewing!), these releases will be introduced progressively over the course of the year. Stay informed about the latest Earcatch additions by subscribing to our weekly Earcatch newsletter via this link: https://confirmsubscription.com/h/y/6ACE80DF8F81726B.
Title selection:
In terms of title selection, we are working within the parameter that content must be locally commissioned for TVNZ. Within this, we will be uploading a range of content spanning all genres - including archive audio description as well as for shows that are currently airing on broadcast TV.
NB: We do not currently have funding to audio describe shows that are going straight to TVNZ+ without going to broadcast first, but we hope that the combination of current and archive titles will mean that there is some great content for you to enjoy on there.
Requesting content:
We also have a new form on our website where you’ll be able to request content to be audio described. You can access it through this link: https://able.co.nz/contact/. This will go straight to our programming team, who will build requests into their decision-making where they can. Alternatively, you can email [email protected] and title your email ‘AD CONTENT REQUEST.’
The launch of the app:
For now, we have an initial selection of titles available which will launch on Monday. We’ll be celebrating the launch with guest audio description of the new season of Taskmaster NZ by comedian Tom Sainsbury!
If you’d like to get used to the app before then, you can go onto TVNZ+ and select Creamerie, Season 2, Episode 1, and play the corresponding audio description via the Earcatch app. Instructions for how to do this are below.
How to use Earcatch:
Here’s a link to our instructions on how to use Earcatch: https://able.co.nz/articles/how-to-use-earcatch/.
Further instructions and information are also available via the Earcatch website (link here: https://earcatch.eu/), and the team are available for technical support via email at [email protected].

Cringeworthy – Swinging in the ’60s!

By Andrea Sanders

Presented by BeatGirl Productions

A psychedelic blast from the past!

Cringeworthy is back, transporting you to the GROOVIEST era of all, the swinging ’60s!

Following on from Cringeworthy the ’70s and ’80s, this show is a FAR-OUT tribute to Kiwiana music and culture in the ’60s.

With just one TV channel, shows such as Let’s Go, C’Mon and Happen Inn were all the rage, with top acts such as Mr Lee Grant, Dinah Lee, The Chicks, Alison Durban and John Rowles performing a mix of local and international hits.

Presented by our very own ‘Mod Father’ Ray Columbus and the smoothest of smooth, Pete Sinclair, Kiwis had a BLAST as a smorgasboard of songs hit the screens! Along with homegrown hits, be prepared to hear your FAB favourites from iconic overseas acts such as The Beatles, Tom Jones, Petula Clark, The Seekers, Nancy Sinatra and more, as a musical journey takes us back to a time so vastly different to today.

If you’re SWITCHED ON then TUNE IN, break out your Beehives and Beatleboots and get ready to Go go. Do the TWIST, do the SWIM, do the DUCK, do the PONY, do whatever you like as long as you do it at Cringeworthy the ’60s.

CAN YOU DIG IT??

“A swinging affair, equal parts fast paced and hilarious!”

“Fab choreography, psychedelic costumes and a sizzlingly snazzy vocal quartet”

“Memory lane has never looked this good, forget Dancing in the Street, you’ll be dancing in your seat”

Following on from Cringeworthy the ’70s and ’80s, this show is a FAR-OUT tribute to Kiwiana music and culture in the ’60s.
