20/01/2025
Last year, after successfully running “capital bachata connection 2024” in September, we took a long and much needed break. During this time, we looked back over the last five years of cbc festivals and thought about what we want to do in the future. This is a long post, so hold tight!
We’ve loved running all our cbc festivals. It’s been great fun showcasing the Wellington bachata community, as well as bringing in teachers and dancers from across the country and beyond. With everyone’s help and attendance the cbc festivals have steadily grown into something substantial, of which we have been really proud.
As it’s grown, the level of complexity, administration and management has ramped up as well and, whilst we have the amazing support of all our Wellington teachers, the festival is primarily run by just the two of us. It’s a big job and last year we noticed the workload was becoming unsustainable. It began impacting our personal lives to the point where we stopped dancing, practicing and learning - which was the reason we started all this in the first place.
So sadly, we’ve made the difficult decision to stop running the festival, and 2024 will be the last.
What does that mean for the future?
Whilst we’re sad to see the festival go, cbc will still be active. We’ll continue running our monthly Bailamos Bachata party at Southern Cross, and plan to run smaller weekend events and socials in the future (see the link for Kristian & Amie below, that’s going to be amazing 😃). This definitely isn’t goodbye.
Thank you so much to all the schools and teachers who taught and assisted at the cbc festivals. We couldn’t have done it without all your help. And a huge thank you to everyone who attended, performed, danced, sat on registration desks, put up posters, helped us put away the chairs at the end of the night, gave us hugs …. the list is very long.
If you read all the way down to here, you are amazing and we’ll see you on a dance floor very soon.
