Today seems an appropiate day to post a photo of my work Across the Lines. I made the cloak in honour of the lives that were forever changed by our involvment in WW1. The cloak is made up of 510 glass pegs that form the image of an impressionists painting of flanders fields. I was fortunate to win the Ranamok Glass Prize (Australia and nz glass competition) with this work and it is now owned by the National Gallery of Australia.

Our Home - Lisa Walsh glass installation

Award winning glass artist Lisa Walsh is unveiling her installation “Our Home – the English Rose meets Pacific” in the Old Scout Den on Chester Street, Waverley during the Whanganui Open Studios which is open on 23 to 24 March and 30 to 31 March 2013, from 10am to 4pm.

In 2010 Lisa Walsh won the Molly Morpeth Canaday glass award with her work “Welcome Home”. Lisa says in her artist’s statement that Our Home is a progression from Welcome Home, naturally leading on to “where does the person who celebrates New Zealand lives, what do they treasure, collect and protect as sacred”.

“Our Home is an opportunity to see how our unique mix of cultures looks today. A show home of what New Zealanders value and are influenced by,” Lisa said.

Lisa said that viewers should be prepared to see glass in forms and scale you have not seen before. “Our Home is a rare opportunity to experience our culture, reminisce on objects that we have treasured and reflect on the uniqueness that makes up our country,” she said.

Nearly 80 percent of the installation is recycled glass.

Waverley is hosting the West Country leg of the Whanganui Open Studios which the installation is a part of. It features over 60 studios and galleries and Lisa joins 5 other artists in Waverley with an amazing array of art across 4 locations. The other artists in Waverley in the Reinvented Art & Design Studio include Jane Mitchell and Jack Register, Karen Workman’s Studio at 107 Weraroa Road will display her felt work and host work from glass and textile artist Elysabeth Wolter and metal artist John Wolter who has got an upcoming exhibition in New York.
