Calling all artists and creators!

Applications are open now for our 2026 Labour Weekend Artist Residency.

Join us for two weeks of creativity in Wānaka this October!

We are looking for an artist to join us in Wānaka this October for a two week artist residency.

All disciplines welcome to apply, from painting, sculpture and fine art, to photography and textiles.

Come and get inspired, create new artworks and show them at our 2026 Labour Weekend Exhibition.

The residency runs in the two weeks preceding our Wānaka Arts Labour Weekend Exhibition (Thursday 22nd – Sunday 25th October 2026)

The residency is open only to artists who normally reside outside the Queenstown Lakes District.

Arts Coordinator Wanted!

Have you been thinking of a way that you can get involved with the local art community and be part of the fabric of our wonderfully creative town?

We are looking for a part-time arts coordinator to help us plan and market our local events.

This is a varied role covering event coordination, exhibition management, member communications, graphic design, social media and marketing.

You will report to the art society chairperson and work with the rest of the committee to organise local arts events.

This is a paid role for 5-10 hours per week, with more event related hours in October.

Thank you to everyone who came out last night to support the opening night of our Community Hub Exhibition.

This exhibition features local photographers and fine artists: Nick Edwards, Karina Fay, Sheelagh McHaffie, Alice Friend, Lin Tempest, Sonia Waters, Vicky Fulton.

If you missed the opening night, don’t stress! You can visit the exhibition from now until end of July.

You might even find something to take home to decorate your walls.
All works are for sale!

Join us on Thursday 21st as painter Susie Ruddenklau takes us through some playful drawing exercises, and introduces us to the magic medium of ink.

Susie says of her work: “I love to evoke emotion and a sense of being ‘in’ the painting and absorbing its colourful and often humorous atmosphere.”
 
🗓️ When: Thurs 21st May, 6:00–7:30pm
📍 Where: Wānaka Community Hub, 34 McDougall Street, Wānaka

🎨 Materials:
Please bring a white plate or a palette, watercolour brushes, pencil, eraser, a water container, and a waterproof fine black pen (Eg. Artline brand is good). Paper and inks will be provided.

🎟️ Entry:
Wānaka Arts Members: $10
Non-members: $20
Please bring cash on the night.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for last month’s visit to Andrew Tischler’s studio at Tischler Gallery.

We were so lucky to be able to get a full studio and behind the scenes tour of this wonderful space.

Andrew is a world-renowned realism artist, and teacher. He hosts his own online art school called Tisch Academy, with tutorials on fine art techniques.

What an absolutely incredible gallery space to have here in Wānaka!

Join us on Thursday 7th May to celebrate the opening night of the Wānaka Arts Community Hub Exhibition.

Opening night: 5:30–7:00 PM, Thursday 7th May
Location: Wānaka Community Hub

Call for artists!

Entries are open now for our rotating three month exhibition which displays artworks in the Wānaka Community Hub reception area.

This exhibition runs Friday 30th April – Friday 31st July.
(We will have an opening night on Thursday 7th May.)

Each artists has one square metre of hanging space to display their work.

There is no commission on sold work. Artwork is sold using a ‘cash and carry system’ – sold works can be replaced at any stage during the exhibition.

Each artist pays $10 per week +GST, in an upfront payment for the three month period.

Do you like art? Join us for the 2026 Wānaka Arts AGM!

6–7:30pm, Tuesday 21st April at the Wānaka Community Hub

All Wānaka Arts members are welcome! Come along and have your say in shaping Wānaka Arts for 2026 and beyond.

This is a chance for members to hear about what we have achieved over the past 12 months and get involved in shaping the year to come.

We are thrilled to announce that our our April Wānaka Arts event will be hosted by local fine artist, Andrew Tischler at his gallery and studio space in Northlake. All arts members and non-members are welcome – RSVP now to secure your spot!

Andrew Tischler is known for his detailed, light-filled landscapes, wildlife, and portrait work. He is the founder of the new Tischler & Co Fine Art Gallery in Wānaka and the online art school; Tisch Academy. Born in Texas and raised in Western Australia, he began painting at a young age and became a full-time artist by 21. Now based in the Wānaka, Tischler paints from his studio and shares his expertise with over 1 million followers through workshops and online tutorials. 

Come along to hear about Andrew’s personal art journey, gain insight into his creative process, and how his work has evolved over time.
