The HMS Titanic exhibition with c. 250 lifted artefacts and largest piece of hull brought to the surface on display after conservation. An interesting exhibit describing the design and build of the ship, a walk through of 3rd to 1st class conditions, a reconstruction of the famous staircase seen in the movie, and personal stories of passengers. A surprising amount of passengers opted for a class lower than they could afford to save for their new life in the new world, and how many had been transferred onto the ship due to a coal strike stopping the running of other liners and boats. Some incredible preservation with some very sad stories and a final list of all who died .

In honour of New Zealand’s archaeology week 2024, MishMish Heritage pays homage to Indiana Jones. Love him, hate him, he certainly doesn’t use modern day professional techniques but has been an inspiration for many budding young archaeologists. He has big shoes to fill… I’m not there yet 😁

Korero around the the removal of old pines in an archaeological landscape and wahi tapu place…
It’s a balancing act that needs consideration on a sand spit where the trees are already falling and the spit is being eroded away by the tides. Climate change is another big event affecting loss of our important cultural heritage. Some significant mahi to come with collaboration between Tangata Whenua, forest contractors, councils, archaeology and conservation experts.
