NEIL & CINDY - bio
Neil Billington is one of New Zealand’s leading exponents of the harmonica. Equally at home playing in the ‘Chicago-style’ of Little Walter on the blues harp or reflecting the more sophisticated jazz sensibilities of Belgian jazz great, Jean ‘Toots’ Thielemans, on chromatic harmonica, Neil has played on international stages with some of the world’s finest blues musicians, like Louisiana slide guitarist Sonny Landreth and has played with many of New Zealand’s finest jazz and blues musicians at gigs and festivals around the country. He has also performed regularly up the coast with his old friend and local identity Andrew London as part of the former Hot Club Sandwich.
Wellington singer songwriter Cindy Muggeridge draws heavily from boogie-woogie, the blues piano of Otis Spann and the New Orleans sound of Doctor John. She regularly performs with her own band, the Raven Mavens Quartette, and is known as Wellington’s own ‘Queen of the Boogie Woogie Piano’, with fans coming from far and wide to hear songs she has written, and the covers she chooses to play.
Expect this duo to deliver a range of songs from sensitive ballads to toe tapping boogies and soulful blues.
