A little look behind the scenes at the rimu toki sculpture we created for Te Kiwi Māia in August.

This taonga brings together the beautiful grain of rimu, hand-plaited cord and a custom engraved base.

Special mahi to create together, and a privilege to contribute to this kaupapa. Ngā mihi, Te Kiwi Māia, for trusting us with this commission.

Funding application submitted with 18 minutes to spare! 😁😅

We’re planning 4x clay taonga workshops at Ahoake, giving tamariki something creative to enjoy over summer, with parents and whānau welcome to join in. All free!

Each workshop will explore making different taonga or taonga pūoro with plenty of room for creativity, kōrero and connection.

Everything supplied, no cost for our community, with 80 places across the four workshops if funding is approved. We have applied for the Tūrangi/Tongariro Community Grant with the Taupō District Council.

Fingers crossed we can bring this kaupapa to life! 🫶🏿🤞🏿✊🏿

RŌIHO, RŌAKE, HAEPURU & HAEMATUA - PUNA POT

This newly carved pumice pot draws inspiration from the Atua Twins - Rōiho & Rōake, Haepuru & Haematua. I’ve potted up some String of Turtles as the hair, heaps of fun creating this one!

Bit of recent mahi toi from the last couple of weeks. Still jumping between mediums, carving pumice, shaping and carving uku, playing with digital design & poster art. Little rough on my first binding using regular rope but know it will be better next time. Still experimenting, learning and making 🌈✨🙏🏿
