16th July 2023 Slipped on wet tiles injuring myself. Diagnosed as twisted/sprained neck, torso, and ankle.

16th Sept 2023 Ankle injury not resolving as expected. GP consult. Diagnosed as a sprain. Prescribed RICE.

16th Oct 2023 Referred back to GP, who subsequently makes referral for ultrasound of ankle.

3rd Nov 2023 Ultrasound - results of which indicated X-ray required as ankle appears to be fractured.

16th Nov 2023 X-ray of right ankle - results of which indicate referral to Specialist required.

23rd Nov 2023 After work consultation with physiotherapist leave with moonboot and fly to Melbourne to see perform with

23rd Nov 2023 Specialist emails referring me for MRI which is subsequently booked for following Monday.

24th Nov 2023 catch overnight bus to Adelaide to see perform on 25th Nov 2023, lining up from 7am, making some excellent friends and managing to make barricade despite exhaustion and Moonboot! Went out afterwards, then headed to airport at 3am.

26th Nov 2023 Early morning flight back to Melbourne to spend day with whānau with before catching flight back to Auckland that night.

27th Nov 2023 arrive home 2:45am and head to work at 5:30am. After work get MRI. Also 27th Nov 2023 - very excited to find ourselves in post of pics from concert in Adelaide!

4th Dec 2023 Contacted by surgeon’s office to make an appointment for him to see me urgently. I took the first available appointment which was 14th Feb 2024

14th Feb 2024 Appt with surgeon confirming surgery required and making plan for surgery due to high grade longitudinal split tear of the peroneus brevis with tenosynovitisplu avulsion fracture of the superior peroneal retinaculum of the peroneus tendons plus low-grade sprain/partial thickness injury of the ATFL and CFL. Subsequent referral made to ACC.

23rd Feb 2024 ACC say they’re unable to proceed with paying for the surgery.

22nd May 2024 ACC approve ankle surgery.

28th May 2024 Surgery booked for 19th June 2024.

19th June 2024 Surgery performed, and we settle in for two weeks non-weight bearing plus elevation. Finally on the road to recovery!

It’s four and a half years since you passed away, Dad, and nine weeks today since Muma drew her last breath. She would’ve turned 82 last Thursday and you would’ve been 84 today. We always celebrated your birthdays together. Today, without either of you here, the quiet is cavernous.

Thinking of you, Muma, especially today. I wish we could be with you, but whilst you may not be here to celebrate your birthday with us, you’re still in all of our thoughts. I can’t even put into words how much I’m missing you.

This time last week, my Mum was still alive. I didn’t know then she only had a couple of hours left with us. I’m trying to be grateful for all the wonderful years we had with her and especially for the opportunity we had to say goodbye, but mostly my heart is broken and I am completely at sea.
