She Creates He Makes

She Creates He Makes A husband and wife duo who create and make events and things for you to cherish forever. prop hire - styling - planning - design - art

What can I say...I LOVE weddings and making things! Actually I love any form of gathering with friends and family, from the casual backyard barbie to a picnic on the beach. There is something so satisfying about seeing people happy and having fun creating memories that last a lifetime, it honestly gives me that warm sensation deep in your chest like the aftermath of a great mulled wine (my fav). A

fter I married my best friend and now DIY partner for life, Dylan back in 2015 - in what had to be the best wedding ever (not biased at all), I realised that I wanted to be able to help give others that warm fuzzy mulled wine drinking happy feeling. Plus we had quite a bit of cool stuff we made for our wedding why not share it around. So here we are giving it ago. Take one creative lady add her builder hubby (plus our daughter Koa) and we have she creates he makes. A little business which can help you make your dreams a reality, we offer, prop hire - styling - planning - custom building projects - basically whatever you are after we would love to help you with. We are two down to earth kiwis, with a love for DIY, second hand shopping and making things pretty. So please get in touch we would love to chat about your next event. Asha & Dylan (and Koa) x

P.S If you would like to see a bit more of our wedding to give you a bit of an idea on our style follow this link to Hello May (the best wedding magazine ever) which we were lucky enough to be published in:

[FISH ON A LOG] - Yes you read that right! It is a whole salmon cooked on a log.

Inspired by more of the outdoor WILD adventure cooking by (I secretly wish she a) lived in NZ and b) was my best friend so I could eat everything she made). I swear food cooked outdoors in nature with fire is elevated to another level of taste.

Plus the theatrics that cooking with fire brings, that lovely Smoke that gently stings your eyes and covers your clothes and generally brings people together. You can’t beat it!

Again think outside the square for your big day or next event to provide something a little different. Have some fun. Get your guests involved and out of their seats.

[I LOVE CAKE] - Think outside the square. My cake maker planned for our shoot unfortunately couldn’t make it so it took a bit of quick thinking on my behalf as to how I could produce something beautiful while already having enough to plan and create.

Inspired by the incredibly talented outdoor cooking of I created my version of her Yolk Sponge and Meringue Cake and called it Picnic Bag Cake. Something you can just whip out and enjoy. I baked the sponge and meringue layers a week before and froze them. Pre-made a bit of Raspberry and Chia Jam and Softened Syrupy Orange Peel to spread on the sponge, whipped a bottle of cream on site layered them up, added some herbs and things to decorate and bobs your uncle you have a pretty cool Wedding cake.

Minimum fuss, maximum taste! (Was actually insanely bloody fantastic not even just blowing my own horn here). You could even kindly ask a guest to put it something like this together for you on the day, guests love to feel like more than just a guest and will relish in being given responsibility like this.

So poor old Facebook has been rather neglected of late as I find Instagram a much easier platform to post on plus my daughter keeps me a tad too busy for constant social media updates.

But this deserved a wee mention thanks to The Bridal Table for featuring a Styled Shoot I did with the loveliest group of talented vendors.

Check it out...

Deep rusty hues with dominant greens are right on trend with this styled shoot from Katie Cook Photography.

[LETS CELEBRATE] It’s Christmas! I’m enjoying prepping food, wrapping parcels, having dinner with cool people like and and even trying my hand at a bit of foraged floral work to pop on top of my hand painted acrylic sign. Not normally a fan of red flowers but when it’s free and all you have, you got to make it work. Not a bad effort for a beginner. Must be all the floral workshops I’ve done paying off. .

[CALM] It’s time to take a minute and reflect on one of the most hectic but amazing days we’ve had (since our own wedding and having our daughter) finishing up our Adventurer Styled Shoot with a 12am finish this Monday morning (I am still doing dishes!)

And as badly as I want to share some images with you all you will just have to wait....small hint it may have involved a Fish on a Log...hope you are intrigued.

I cannot thank all the wonderful vendors involved enough (see previous post on instagram) We have made some new and beautiful friendships.

[SHE CREATES - HE MAKES] : Part 4 - Another custom addition to last weekends wedding. Custom hand painted coat hangers for their dresses. And to match their boxes. I am so glad the weather is warming up painting these things at night means freezing feet and freezing hands - and yes this is with a hot water bottle, slippers and a million layers on 😬😳😉

SIGNAGE - My absolute favourite hand tool has to be the Jigsaw. The things you can create!

I hand drew these large letters and cut them myself (not the hubby I leave the technical building to him) with my trusty jigsaw. Don't they look pretty great at the end of our barn!

My jigsaw has had a long enough holiday so if you would like something like this for your wedding or event get in touch.
