Hi, I’m Sophie. I thought It was about time I introduced myself and give some background into WiildPress.
I left England as a solo female traveler in 2016 to peruse my travel dreams. I traveled Australia for two years on a working holiday visa. I began my Australia travels by exploring the East Coast, where I met some awesome people, partied to much and spent the majority of my savings. I stopped and work in Sydney for 7 months. I fell in love with the city and wanted to stay forever. In order to extend my visa I had to complete 88 days agriculture work. So I did! 2 months on a strawberry farm in Mooloolaba and 2 months in Coffs Harbour. I met my best friend and travel buddy whilst doing my farm work. My buddy and I arrived in Melbourne after completing our farm work and decided to do a road trip. We saved hard for 5 months while working in Melbourne and got ourselves a mean 4x4 and travelled for 7 months, we lived in our car and drove from Melbourne to Perth, Darwin, then back down the centre of Australia to Alice Springs and finally, Adelaide. It was a trip of a lifetime and one I will never forget.
In 2018 I came to Tauranga and instantly fell in love with the place. I met my partner Mitchell here, also from England and we hope to become residence in the near future.
I have been a passionate creative my whole life and I have always been looking for that one creative outlet. WiildPress came to me during lock down. Taking long walks during this time, and also having time to really put my mind towards something different. Which steered me towards finding WiildPress.
Pressed and dried flowers are really in fashion right now and its a sustainable way of creating art. I now use all up-cycle frames for my pressed flower frames.
WiildPress workshops, was born when my flat mate organised a ‘lads day’ for him and his mates. I thought, Geese! Us girls need to have some fun like that!
My dream is to grow WiildPress workshops into a sisterhood where any woman can come along, feel welcome and comfortable in a creative setting and unwind, have fun, make friends and leave the workshop feeling whole, and with something beautiful in hand, which she has created.
