Want to dance like this one day? You've got to start somewhere!

You don't need a partner, dance experience, or fancy footwork to get started. Our Beginners class takes you through Modern Jive step by step, helping you build confidence as you learn.

Our new term starts Thursday 15 October, and you can join Beginners at any point during the term.

Already know the basics? Beginners+ is there when you're ready to build on your skills.

Looks like it'd take years to learn, doesn't it?

It really doesn't. Every dancer you see moving smoothly started in a beginners class, feeling just as unsure as you might be right now. A few weeks of showing up is honestly all it takes to go from "I have no idea what I'm doing" to feeling comfortable on the floor.

Ready to actually do the thing you’ve been thinking about for weeks?

Our Term 4 Beginners class starts this Thursday, 15 October, and it’s made for people who are completely new to Modern Jive.

No partner needed. No dance experience expected. We’ll start with the basics and help you build your confidence one step at a time.

And there’s no pressure if you can’t make the first night. Our Beginners class is open throughout the term, so you can start when you’re ready.

Once class finishes, stick around for social dancing. It’s open to everyone and a great chance to practise what you’ve just learned.

Our Beginners+ class is the next step.

Running Thursdays at 7:45pm, Beginners+ gives you the chance to build on what you already know, develop your dancing, and add a bit more challenge once you’re confident with the beginner level.

Beginners+ dancers are also welcome to come along to the 6:30pm Beginners class, stay for Social Dancing, and make a full night of it.

Been away from dancing for a while? Start with Beginners to refresh the basics, then step up to Beginners+ when you’re feeling comfortable again.

Ever wondered what Modern Jive actually looks like in person?

Here’s a taste. This is the kind of dancing you’ll be learning the building blocks of from Thursday 15 October. And no, you won’t be expected to look like this on night one.

Everyone starts with the basics and builds from there. Once you’re comfortable and ready to progress, Beginners+ gives you somewhere to keep developing. There’s also social dancing between the two classes, and everyone is welcome to join in.

Learning to dance can sound like a big deal when you’ve never done it before.

That’s why we don’t try to teach you everything at once.

We start with the things that actually matter: finding the timing, getting comfortable moving with a partner, understanding leading and following, and learning a few beginner Modern Jive moves.

Then we build from there.

One move starts to feel familiar. Then another. You stop thinking quite so hard about what your feet are doing, and before long, you’re not just learning the moves anymore. You’re actually dancing.

Our Beginners class is open to everyone, whether you’ve never danced before or you’re coming back and want to refresh the basics.

Our Beginners class starts right from the basics and gives you a relaxed place to learn Modern Jive at your own pace.

You can stay in the Beginner level class as long as you like. Start anytime, no partner required and move up to beg+ when you’re ready.

Our new term kicks off Thursday 15 October at Waipahihi Community Hall. Come along, give it a go. You won’t regret it!

Wondering what a class night with us actually feels like? Here's a little taste of it.

Our Beginner's Block Course is still open, and it's exactly the vibe you'd hope for, simple steps, a welcoming room, nobody worrying about getting it perfect. If you've been curious, this is a good week to come try it in person.

Already danced with us before? Our regular class is still on every Thursday at 6:30pm, come back whenever suits in the new term from the 15th of October.
